This was the last three days of our Costa Rica vacation. The first part had lots of hiking and this part was very quiet. The park is very small so no hiking. The monkeys have become very comfortable around people so are easy to spot in the lower parts of the trees. One even took bananas from our pack while I was sleeping a couple of feet away. The tour books said that this would be crowded. Well it was not by my standards. The two beaches that were open were almst empty. Very pretty, lots of sand, views of the islands.

If you have seen other parks or forests then the park is not much different. The city beach is almost as good as the park beach, and free.

If your going to go into the park, make sure to pay for a private tour. The guides are very knowledgeable and they bring a large telescope for you to use. If your in a group, you have to wait in line to see in the telescope. We brought our own binoculars, but didn't use them. Too hard to find things. The guides are a pro. What every you do, make sure to book a tour first thing in the morning. It gets very warm. Also, make sure to stop and get lots of water and snacks before you go into the park. It is a very long hot morning. You will appreciate a drink and snack after a couple of hours. Once your in the park, their is nowhere to buy anything. Their is a little market right outside the entrance. Make sure you bring a towel too. Once you get to the beach, you will want to go in the water. It's beautiful and not to mention very warm. You will appreciate the towel and snack at this point.

This park was the last park that we visited during our stay in Costa Rica. We also went to the national parks of Monteverde, Rincon de la Vieja and Carara. Maybe because it was Saturday but we were shocked by the number of people that were visiting the parks (most of the locals went directly to the beach however).
This park has concrete trails and other kind of paths which makes this park maybe attractive for elderly and children but takes away the feeling that you are walking in the rain forest. Combined with the number of people in the park and their noise this park feels more like an "open zoo" than a real wildlife park. Definitely a disappointment after visiting the other parks!

Beautiful and lush park. You definitely need a tour guide to help you see the animals. I thought I would see sloths all over and only saw two high up in trees.
