My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful week around Costa Rica. We stayed in 5 different places there, and Vista de Olas was certainly a highlight. We had only pre-booked the first two hotels (in Jaco and Montezuma) and I'm SO glad we were spontaneous about the 2nd half of our trip, because we never would have stumbled upon this place if it weren't for a tip from a local Tico (Jeffry from Solo Bueno Tours in Cabuya - thanks!).
We didn't call ahead or book online....we just showed up. There are only 5 villas, so we were SO lucky when we learned they had ONE villa available for that night...perfect for us! We had villa #5 which didn't have clear ocean view, but it was still SUPER great, affordable, and perfect location. I think that the price was very fair ($135) for all that we got.
The best thing about this place is the POOL! It's an infinity pool with a swim up bar, with a PERFECT view of the Pacific ocean and the sunset. Truly remarkable. We had an extremely active trip, and this was the first place where we truly relaxed. Every night, they also do fantastic barbeques from 6-8, where you cook your own food on the grill. Although there are only 5 villas, the restaurant/pool are open to the public in the evening, so it's popular with the locals (though, we were there on a Wednesday, so there was hardly anyone there).
The staff were extremely helpful. Josh and (argh - I can't remember the woman's name!) were tremendous. They shared stories with us, made us terrific drinks, arranged for a massage for us at the nearby Hotel Tropico Latino spa, and made our stay truly enjoyable.
A couple VERY minor cons: The road to get up to the hotel is very rugged, so hopefully you'll have a 4X4 vehicle. We did, so it wasn't a problem for us. The mattress was VERY hard, but we were so exhausted so we didn't mind so much. Also, you'll definitely have some bugs, but what do you expect from a jungle villa???
Cabo Blanco and the towns of Malpais, Sta. Teresa and other prime surf towns are all minutes away by car, so if you're looking for a headquarters for your Nicoya adventure, you should DEFINITELY stay here!
The exceptional service, impeccable views, tasty bbq dinners and charming mountain-perched villas overlooking the Pacific make this the PERFECT Costa Rican getaway!
