“A beautiful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

My boyfriend and I chose Moana on a whim and we were beyond pleased. We stayed in a deluxe room which I highly recommend. They are decorated beautifully, have great A/C and are very clean. The property is beautiful- it is built into a mountain so there are a lot of stairs but the benefit are the incredible views. We were there in August so the restaurant was only open for breakfast. The food was great but I would have loved the restaurant to be open for dinner at least 1-2 nights because I'm sure it's delicious. BUT, there are so many places to eat in Mal Pais and Santa Teresa that it got us exploring the town more which we really loved.
The staff is wonderful! We adored Bruno. My biggest suggestion is to ask him for recommendations they are all super helpful. This hotel is right across the street from the beach (as are most of the hotels). It is a few minutes away from town so I would recommend renting an ATV for a day or two to get around. We also rented bikes for a day as well. Moana also has taxis they use and can easily call you one to get around if need be. Overall great experience, I highly recommend!

We stayed at Hotel Moana when the place we had booked for our honeymoon didn't work out. Although we arrived just as Vicki, who was working in the Reception, was leaving for the day, she was extremely helpful and took plenty of time to show us around. All through our stay, the entire staff was very friendly and most helpful as we explored Mal Pais. The hotel itself is magnificent--comfortable rooms, magnificent complimentary breakfasts on the balcony overlooking the ocean,a clean pool and hot tub, all framed by an abundance of gorgeous jungle plants and wildlife. We do not have a single complaint--the entire experience was more than we ever dreamed!

We loved every minute of our stay at Hotel Moana. From arranging transfers to and from the airport, to impeccable service on-site, the hospitality far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the honeymoon suite, which was the most breathtaking view I've ever had in a hotel room. The private terrace with an outdoor shower, the beautiful bathroom, the floor to ceiling windows that open up to the ocean, the platform bed and the stunning decor made the room itself feel incredibly luxurious as well. The food at the restaurant was great - we had breakfast and dinner there nearly every day in Mal Pais. You're across the street from the beach but only a 5 minute walk, and the benefit of being built into the hill is the spectacular view of the ocean above the trees. The pool was also a quiet and lovely spot to relax. We've been raving about our stay at Moana since we stayed there in January 2014 and we can't wait to come back. We had a bout of food poisoning (from a restaurant in town - be careful when eating raw lettuce and vegetables!) and we had to call a medic - they were very responsive, helpful and compassionate at the front desk and did everything they could to make us comfortable. The entire staff was so helpful and pleasant during our visit - we can't say enough good things about Moana.

Room Tip: Book the suites for an ocean view

We had 2 nights in this hotel, which is very nice and relaxing. The rooms are stylish decorated and clean. The restaurant has an amazing view which makes the stairway up in the morning worth it!

We rented the ATV the hotel offers, which was so much fun! You should definitely rent an ATV since the distance to the beaches is to far from the hotel and it is to hot to walk. It is a perfect way to get around.

The only negative thing we can think of is the fact that the restaurant was during our stay in low season only open for breakfast, since the view is so amazing it would be a perfect place to have dinner as well.

We would recommend this place to everyone!

I stayed at Moana Lodge for a week this past April. I wouldn't change a thing about our stay.

The rooms are very clean and give you a true, rustic Costa Rican feel - while remaining comfortable and providing all the essentials we are used to in the States. This includes air conditioning, which is a necessity after a hot day in the Costa Rican sun!

The attention to detail and desire to please the customers is quite obvious from the minute you meet the staff. In particular, Bruno, the hotel manager is constantly going above and beyond to make sure his guests are having the best possible vacation possible.

The restaurant on the property not only serves delicious food and cocktails, but the sunset views from there are unparalleled.

The area is great for exploring. There are many great restaurants and beaches in Santa Teresa, so I recommend renting a quad for the week and exploring. The hotel will gladly set this up for you !

I would recommend this property to any friend traveling to Costa Rica ! Pura Vida!

Jules

This was the last stop my husband and I made on our belated honeymoon in Costa Rica. We hit some bumps along the way earlier in our trip due to transportation problems, getting sick and unexpected costs. However, when we arrived at Hotel Moana, we wished we had spent to entire 2 weeks of our trip there. It was such a lovely spot. The staff was phenomenal, the restaurant provided an incredible view (not to mention amazing food and drinks) and during the evening we fell asleep to the sounds of nature (and the odd iguana climbing our roof). The pool was lovely, large and well kept. We loved the concept of the honesty bar, and we met some truly memorable people. We would return to Hotel Moana and send anyone looking for a romantic getaway, their way for sure. Do not miss this peace of Costa Rican paradise.

This is the place where you can relax by the pool with it's background sound of the waves coming from the beach, breakfast really good, but can't tell about the restaurant for dinner it was closed at this time. Everybody is really nice and ready to help you. And the view from the restaurant...Whoa!!!....You can't imagine you need to be there because even on pictures it doesn't show what you really experience their.
Just a note about this hotel which is note really clear on the wehsite, 1) it's not directly on the beach you need to cross a street to get access to one them and people with disabilities can't stay there you have so may steps to get to your room (you have 2 rooms accessibles by a ramp) and to the restaurant when you go that up for the breakfast you already have done your dayly exercise :-) To get thiw WHOA view you need to be on the top of this hill!
If you want a massage, ask for Josette! She provided me the best massage ever and she is so sweet and delicate. She comes at the hotel and do your massage in your room or by the pool just amazing. Thank you Josette!
Horse riding is also an excellent plan to spend around 2 hours.

Room Tip: We got the standart one in cabins which is nice, do not expect to have a view but you are close to t...
