Once you get to the resort from San Jose, which is about 2 hours, it is wondefrul. We were there to relax and when we saw the pool with its winding nooks with shaded palm trees alcoves we were in heaven. The swim up bar is also great.

The rooms were very nicely decorated and kept with the overall decor of the hotel. There is a very big marina with the hotel as well that we chartered a fishing boat through. We were out for about 4 hours and hooked a giant black marlin which was amazing. We also caught a few tuna that we kept and brought them back for the restaurant at the hotel to cook. The cooked it up 3 different ways which was over the top good!

The only thing that was a little disappointing was the beach. The beach is mostly muddy sand and not really the type of beach you want to lay on. However we did not really need the beach since the pool was so great and we were busy doing zip lines and dinning on lobster in the near by town of Jaco. If you go, you won't regret it, have fun.

I took my boyfriend there for a long weekend over Labor Day and we have the best weekend ever! The resort is beautiful, the staff is so friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable… definitely up to Marriott standard.

We rented a car from San Jose airport and drove to the hotel. We rented through Alamo, and also rented a GPS which was very helpful, they were very easy to deal with, but be aware to the insurance they require you purchase. Driving was not half as difficult as everyone warns, especially during the low season. You just need to follow the road signs to the city you are heading towards since the highways aren’t labeled. We drove everywhere and stayed busy the whole time we were there. We went to Manual Antonio National Park, did a Zip Line Canopy Tour in Quepos. We took surfing lessons in Jaco, and drove the 4 hours to Volcano Arenal. We had the best time ever, and the hotel played a large part in the beauty of Costa Rica and our relaxing stay!

I would stay at Los Suenos every time I come back, at least for a few nights!

“Excellent facility and great value”

Marriott Los Suenos Ocean & Golf Resort

Aug 30, 2008

We stayed at the Los Suenos Marriott from 8/22-8/26 and had a wonderful time. Don't let the "rainy season" fool you.....the weather was great. We had rain for about an hour or two late Friday afternoon right before dinner and rain on Monday started about 1 and went into the night. Otherwise the weather was great.

The hotel was less than 1/2 booked because of the slow season which made the pool extemely enjoyable. Restaurants were not crowded and no reservations were needed. We stayed on the All-inclusive plan in a deluxe ocean front room for $369 per night for two adults and two kids. All-inclusive is definately the way to go. There are surcharges on a few items in some of the dinner restaurants but definately well worth it. The themed buffet was a $15 surcharge...but it never showed up on our bill. Drinks were top notch and over all service was spectacular.

We arrived to the hotel to find our room ready and pre-checked in. The room was well appointed and very clean. Noticed one bug that came in through the sliding glass door one morning but that was it.

The beach is ok, it's a public beach not maintained by the Marriott. The water is dark in the cove because of dark sand and mountain rain water that runs into the ocean between the Marriott and the marina.

The trip from/to the airport is about 2 hours but if you chose the CRT for transportation the trip is very comfortable with plenty of scenery. The all inclusive plan includes airport transfers, otherwise it is $155 each way for up to 6 people. CRT is waiting at the airport for you and picked us up in a brand new van with perfect air conditioning. The hotel sends you an email stating that if you want an English speaking guide it's an additional $80. This is not necessary as the driver speaks fairly good English and knows where he is going.

Overall, this was a great trip and definately worth the return. With the 20,000+ plus Marriott Rewards points we earned with this trip we have qualified for a free 7 night stay in the Marriott Maui Ocean Club (150,000 points). Marriott is the only way to travel.

“Beautiful but not what I expected”

Marriott Los Suenos Ocean & Golf Resort

My husband and I went there to stay for our Honeymoon as a gift from his parents. His parents set it up so the only thing we would have to pay for were the tours we wanted to take and food and drinks. Upon arrival we were told we had to pay a 50 dollar charge for something or other. (my hubby didn't tell me what it was for.) So he paid it with his debt card no problems. We were told we had the honeymoon suit with an ocean view. Considering Los Suenos is the most expensive resort in CR I had high expectations in my mind... At least a nice big jetted tub! All we got was a standard room with a great view. Considering the stay was "Free" for us I didn't complan about it. We did get a free breakfast that was Amazing! All the food was great... A little over priced for most. I had the baked shrimp at the bar overlooking the pool and ocean and it was great. The Shrimp were big, but I thought the price of 25 dollars was a bit much for 5 shrimp. However, the lastnight we were there we ate at two of their more expensive restaurants. The one by the marina, and the smaller one down stairs. We found the service at the marina was the best at the hotel, the food was priced better and we got complamentary champane. We went to the other one for desert. I was Extemly disappointed not only in the service but in the portions!!! At all the other restaurants the portions were good... My desert was the Banana Flan. It was the size of a half dollar and about an inch and a half! All for 10 dollars!!! My husband got what looked to be a small cake, about 3x3inches and also about an inch and a half! For another 10 dollars! We also order hot chocolate and coffee they both were good and big. The total price with out the tip was 25 dollars... A bit of a rip off on the deserts. I didn't leave much of a tip since when we told the waiter that we were only having desert he literaly turned his noise up at us most likely thinking that we were on the cheap side. Then it felt like we were being ignored the whole time. Now I'm a server, and I know how some servers think and if they don't feel they will get a "good tip" or they just don't like you they will ignor you! So, since they already had a 3 dollar gratuity added on I was nice enough to leave another 3 dollars... When I was planning on leaving about 10 dollars to start off with, but the service and the food where not worth even the total 6 dollar tip!
When we were to check out we had to leave the hotel at 4am due to the time our plane was leaving. We were checking out and got our bill which had everything on it! The room charges, room tax, massage(that was included in the honeymoon package), everything that my in-laws were supposed to be billed for ended up on out tab... Well, my husband told them to take off the massage and since we had to get going he gave them his credit card to put the bill on. Well, since he put the first 50 dollar charge on his debt card the man at the front desk for whatever reason charged 2,000 something dollars to the debt card when my husband said clearly to put everything on his other credit card!
It has just become such a mess that we are not happy about the resort. The things that were good was the overpriced food and drinks, the view, the pool and the hotel is very beautiful! But, the service was slow, you seemed to isolated, the honeymoon room was way to standard, and it was so overpriced! We wouldn't stay there again!

This is my 2nd trip to CR. I honestly would not stay in this area again as it doesn't have much to offer compared to Manuel Antonio, Arenal or Tamarindo-the other places I went before. There is no airport in Jaco so you are at least at 2 hour drive to San Jose and way more to any other place.
But, if you are coming to the Jaco area, this is an exquisite property with gorgeous rooms and wonderful food. There isn't much here besides the marina and hotel and gorgeous private homes, so if you are planning on site seeing or anything else, you will be signing up for a tour.
I highly recommend the All Inclusive package as the food in the hotel is very expensive compared to the restaurants in Jaco-and to get to Jaco it is a cab ride of about $5-10 each way. We paid about 350/night all inclusive and could have paid about 170/night room only and we spent about 250/day in drinks and meals. It isn't buffet-except breakfast-you eat at the regular restaurants on property. The food was terrific. I really enjoyed my stay here at Los Suenos but it isn't some wild Costa Rican adventure, that's for sure. There are no monkeys or cool wildlife around here.
