“Very Nice Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed at Vista Pacifico for two nights last month an enjoyed our stay very much. This was our first trip to CR so I wanted to stay outside of town. The hotel is on top a hill just outside of town with a nice view of the town & beach.

It's been a month since my girlfriend and I stayed here so this review is a bit overdue. Our expectations were high after reading all the glowing reviews when booking our trip and yet we were still pleasantly surprised with the charm and friendliness of this place. Really, it's Jan, her family and staff that makes the big difference. They do go out of their way to make sure your stay, not just at the hotel but all of Jaco, is a pleasant one. I understand that this is like the millionth review stating how great the hosts were but I wouldn't be doing my service if I didn't say a bit about them.

I won't go into details about the hotel itself. You can see from the previous reviews that the hotel is smaller, quaint, clean, safe, highly affordable, has a nice pool, up on a mountain with great views, etc. Unless you’re looking for an all inclusive eat/drink fest or a resort with a lobby lined with chandeliers, this is the place to stay in Jaco. I do have a couple recommendations however.

Having a car, while not necessary, is very convenient. It's a very long walk from the hotel to town/beach area and, while cabs are cheap and readily available, having a car let you go back and forth on a whim. You get to drive around town to take in the sights in an air conditioned car also. We took a day trip down to Manuel Antonio which you can do by bus but we were able to stop at multiple spots along the coast on our way. We made some friends staying at the hotel without a car that were able to join us and had a great time.

Air conditioning. The second floor where we stayed may offer a slightly better view and a private balcony but no air conditioning. I would have liked the option of having air conditioning. 3 out of 4 nights offered a cool mountain breeze at night but the air was dead still one night and it was hot. First floor rooms have air conditioning and access to one large shared balcony with a set of outdoor table and chairs. We decided the next time we go we’ll stay on the first floor.

Try the tuna especially if you like sushi. Apparently, west coast Costa Rica is the yellow fin tuna capital of the world. It was some of the freshest tuna sushi I ever had.

We had to stay at this hotel because of a killer bees infestation at a home we were supposed to stay in Hermosa Beach. We had a car so this place was perfect, the view was amazing!! James had recommended Graffiti Restro Cafe and Wine Bar, which was our best meal in Jaco!! We had arrived at the hotel late and had no reservation Julianna was wonderful and had a room available and ready, which was much needed!! This hotel has the best value in Jaco and super nice and clean!

This is a fine place to stay. Located at the top of a big hill looking down on Jaco the view is top notch. We lucked out and were able to get a room with no reservation. One of the owners Jan came to the gate and she was a delightfully upbeat person. She made us feel most welcome and gave us room #3 which was only available the one night.(this place is immensely popular and often booked up so get a reservation)
The room was smallish but adequate with a comfortable bed, a small tv and air conditioning. Nothing fancy or upscale but very nice for the night. A great balcony w/ a superb view of the town and a nice pool to boot. Breakfast is continental. good coffee, juice, fresh fruit and pastries
The owners and staff are great people and make you feel right at home. Jaco is a pricey burg so the bill of $62 made for a great budget stay.

Room Tip: as this is an apartment hotel the rooms connect and had we made prior arrangements our room would ha...

My wife and I spent about a week at this hotel on the first leg of a trip to Costa Rica. It was a good base for exploring Jaco. It was a nice quiet location with good views from the mountaintop. The trip to town was short and taxis always arrived in 10 minutes or less. The owners were very nice and helpful in finding and arranging things to do. Their concierge service is a great plus and really puts the value over the top. We selected this place for the added security of being away from town. Having spent a week in Jaco, it's is not as bad as some people have said, but it was nice to be in a small friendly place with spacious rooms. It is very safe and clean. We were a little concerned, when we heard that the owners were retiring, but thier daughter is doing a great job in taking over, and their is a smooth transition. The cost of taxi rides does add up, but the place is still a good value. Sometimes it took a little while to get a cab back to the hotel in the evening. The only thing I would improve on is the continental breakfasts. The food was good and fresh, but after a week, it was good to go to a place with a hot meal. Of course, we could have cooked our own in the full kitchen in our apartment, but we were on vacation.

My wife and I spent two nights at this very nice hotel near Jaco. The Canadian hosts were wonderful and they gave us really good advices as for restaurants nearby. The place is clean and located just outside of the town which is nice in this area, we felt safer outside town. You'll be on top of a hill so on a clear day, you can see the sunset. It is a very relaxing place were you can enjoy the pool on a sunny day even though the beach in Jaco is nice. We would definitely recommend this hotel if you have to go in Jaco and don't mind the traveling between town and hotel (on a map it look's close but it is not a walking distance).

We loved our stay! We met jan and Greg and Julianna and James, nice treat! All very lovely!
We had a room with no air con, would not do that again. As advertised there was a breeze at night that kept us cool. However, we were sweating all day long!!! Maybe just us, but we think you need air con!!
Sorry we have to say this but, the pool was not really that clean. There was some attempt by the owners to remove debris, but we found there was a bit of a film on top :( sometimes the jets were on and sometimes they were not, not sure if that had anything to do with it!
The low season breakfast, well let's just say have your own breakfast ready to go. Hence why a kitchenette is needed and offered at the hotel too!!
Do not hesitate to stay here!! Nice being away from jaco on the hill top!!

Thank you for your review and your kind words about our hotel and hospitality. We really appreciate your feedback. To address a few points you made:

We are glad that you were comfortable at night and enjoyed the cool night breeze we get here on the hill.

We pride ourselves on our sparkling blue swimming pool. The week you stayed with us was a busy one for our pool. When people use a lot of sunscreen and do not shower before entering the pool a “film” can build up on the surface of the water. This build up of sunscreen can only be corrected with harsh chemicals when people aren’t using the pool.

As for our complimentary low-season continental breakfast, many people enjoy our coffee / tea, juices, yogurt and granola, fresh seasonal tropical fruit and pastries. Others prefer to cook a more hearty breakfast in their apartments.

We hope to see you again if you are traveling this way.
