“Interesting new experience for a hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

My wife and I spent our first week in Costa Rica at Clarita's. The transfer from the airport by a service recommended by the hotel went great. The driver was a Californian who had moved to Costa Rica so needless to say he spoke English and was very helpful with information. He dropped us off at the bar and said the check in was inside. Now understand this is an open air beach front bar with loud music playing, a cute tiny Chihuahua running around, and people everywhere (it was Saturday afternoon). I went in and told one of the beautiful waitresses that we were checking in. She quickly found our reservation and asked for a $20 room damage deposit. I gave her the money and she gave me the key to room 16. I walked out and looked toward the rooms and 16 was straight ahead. The next challenge was how to get our luggage which would not roll on the gravel parking lot to our room. One of the many guys wearing a Clarita's Security tee shirt quickly discovered our problem and summoned one of his coworkers to carry our bags for us. By now I am completely wet in perspiration (definitely get air conditioned room) and ready to relax. This is definitely the right place for that! Cold beer, great drinks, fair prices, beautiful friendly waitresses, pretty pool w/waterfall that was kept clean and was never crowded (only for hotel guests). Room was small but clean, Hot water in shower only (found out this is common in CR). Bit of a walk to rest of Jaco. Food prices were good relative to other places tasted great.

Room Tip: Be sure you get A/C. The high in Feb was upper 90's.

This is a very basic backpack hotel. If you like the beach, this is your place. Don't come here for the hotel, but for the location, which is right on the beach. It cannot get closer. Rooms are very basic, but clean. I went for the A/C room, but didn't need it. The fan was cool enough. Staff are very friendly. Atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back. You can have a pizza and a super-cold beer with your bare feet on the sand. Service is slow but, hey, you are in Costa Rica to relax!!!

This was my first trip to Costa Rica. I decided I did not want to plan my vacation away, so I made no plans. This turned out to be the best solution ever.
Clarita's was one of the most laid back places I stayed. The hotel was well run and clean. I asked for extra towels (my only request), and never had to ask again.

Pretty much for the week i stayed there with a walk into town, a long walk on the beach, a swim in the ocean or pool, then hang out in Calarita's Bar/Restaurant.
Every Thursday they have a DJ with Cheap beer and Pizza. It was packed. You can also order off their regular menu. Me being a bit older I preferred to stay in the restaurant where is was a lot quieter. But if you in your 20's or 30's, great party.
I was not board one minute. met a lot of nice people, They took me in as one of their own. It was just easy.

The menu was quite varied. Never ate the same thing twice. I am on a low fat diet, plenty of Fish, Chicken and Seafood on the menu to eat healthy. At times it was more than I could eat.

Did I mention I was traveling alone.

Again TWO THUMBS UP!
Dave

Room Tip: In prime season book as early as possible. Because of the great room pricing they do fill up.

I stayed at this hotel with a couple of friends, separate rooms. The hotel is average and the reason for my average rating goes back to service. To me service is really important and this hotel lacks of it. The front desk is the bar, and because of this it makes service almost inexistent. When we arrived our rooms were not ready so I had to go back to see if we could leave our luggage at the room, but it was really hard to be able to talk to someone there. Here basically once you check in, you are on your own. You need something good luck. I must say to those who say on their reviews that you get your moneys worth? not Shure to what parts of the world have you traveled but to my point of view this area of Costa Rica is one of the most expensive places I have visited. This because I was paying an average of 20-30 USD. per meal and around 4USD per drink. To be on a south American country I believe is high pricing but I could be wrong? As the hotel goes, location is very good as it sits right in front of the beach, beach is nothing special or clean!

Room Tip: chose a room that has AC

this place is literally right on the beach. you do have to walk from your room down to the water but it is just right. the beds are ok just what you would have if you stayed at a relatives house but the rooms were clean though small. the pool was very nice for when you got tired of fighting the ocean waves . the hotel has a nice bar and restaurant on the beach front property and the food is so delicious. I Recommend the pizza and quesadillas. the hotel is a bit away from the town area so you will need a vehicle, taxi or bus or a long hike. also the room does not include breakfast but you can order some at the restaurant.

This is a perfect place to stay for those who love the beach. The rooms are small, but very clean and well maintained. I had a room with A/C and it worked well and kept the room at the right temperature for a good night's sleep. I ate every meal while there and it was consistently very good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I tried many different items and all were good. The bar was always a busy place from lunch through the evening, but found the service very good. The waitresses were consistently sweet and provided good service regardless of the chaos that is standard in a popular bar during peak time. Kayla served my breakfast every morning, while Loreena and Lina were there daily for the other meals. They always were professional and also made very good mango margaritas. This is the place to stay if you go to Costa Rica and need some quality beach time.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the second floor with A/C.

This hotel is located in the northern most part of Jaco and is right on the beach. Im gonna try to point out as much as I can with this review.

The Hotel... The rooms are relatively small but cozy. This is not a 5 star hotel but you are definately getting your money worth. Each room is equipped with a safe. They do have free WiFi. The hotel has its own parking lot that is secured by a guard 24/7. You are allowed to bring guests to your room, they just have to be checked in by the guard on duty.

The Bar & Grill...... The only complaint I have here is that they close at midnight because this place is amazing. The entire atmosphere is great, always packed with a good crowd and the food and drinks taste great. The menu has a good variety and you can have finger foods for as low as 2000 colones($4 dollars). The beers cost around 1500 colones ($3 dollars) A great place to enjoy yourself, you can even take your beer to the beach and just relax in the sun. Theres also a swim up bar in the pool, but that was closed during my stay there. One thing I noticed about some of these reviews was that people didnt find the bar staff to be friendly.........I disagree. The entire staff was amazing and friendly, and always open for conversation no matter how busy it would get, the girls always managed to carry their service with a smile.

The Final Say........Yes I recommend this place. The beach in this part of Jaco is a lot cleaner than southern Jaco and gets bigger and better crowds than southern Jaco. You have the feel of being on a resort. The main strip with all the stores and nightlife is only a 5 minute walk or you can take a cab for only 2 dollars. Ive stayed in numerous parts of Costa Rica, and Jaco is def my favorite. I will be returning in a few months to purchase a condo. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this place or any other

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have a prime view of the beach
