The Hotel facilities (front desk, rooms, grounds, pool and restaurant) are beautiful and peaceful. The staff were very friendly. After having been for 2 weeks, it was painful to leave the easy, laid-back 'family' and friendly place. The management team are knowledgeable and helpful. Brian and Chris are usually around to field questions and to give helpful advice. So many things to do nearby and Jaco is minutes away. We loved it and will be back!

I had a great experience here in january of 2012 everybody was just so welcoming and friendly. Especial the owner you wouldnt exspect him to be the owner at first he seemed more like a guest he was real outgoing and helpfull when i arived he greated us with open arms and had food already made waiting for us in the rooms. the food ther is exceptional along with the great service. This resort sits rite in the heart of costa rica sourounded by beatiful jungle and exotic creatures. The owner (chris) is also very knowledgeable about all the different activities available, especial the nightlife who knows he mite even go out with you for the night if your lucky an take you around to all the hot spots i was lucky enough to ex.periecne that, I recomend this resort if you are planning a trip to costa rica this resort is a must trust me theres really no other resort like this one, you wont regret it. I great experience is awaiting you so book now and enjoy the wonders of docelunas, puda vida my friends

Stayed at DoceLunas for one night and was very pleased!

The hotel is not near the beach (a 3min car ride takes you to Jacó, the closest beach) but instead, it is inserted in the mountain, with a curtain of green canopies on the background. Very pretty and quiet. We were the only guests that night (Tuesday - low season) and felt that we had a piece of paradise just for us!

The grounds are very spacious, with beautiful gardens that are well kept, and trails connecting the restaurant, pool and room units.

We stayed at the standard room, located in a building with two floors (4 rooms per floor, all accessed from a common corridor.) The rooms were fairly big and quiet, with comfortable and clean beds, and beautiful dark wood ceilings and handcrafted furniture. The bathrooms, as somebody else already pointed out, are HUGE, which means you do NOT have to dance with your significant other around the double sink!

The restaurant service was great, even though their chef was off during the time that we visited.
That meant the last page of their menu was off limits for us, but the restaurant still offered a good variety of bar snacks to choose from and the prices on their main courses seemed reasonable to us.

With the chef away, we did not dine at the restaurant but enjoyed breakfast there: an open dining area, surrounded by gardens and flowers in bloom. DoceLunas started our day with giant plates of fresh fruit for each of us, followed by continental breakfast (which includes toast and tea/coffee/juice, as well as traditional "Gallo Pinto" -rice and beans- but no eggs. We ordered them aside and enjoyed our delicious breakfast while listening to wild birds.) The fruit jam they serve with their toast is homemade and to die for!!!!!
Cocktails are 2x1 late afternoon. I enjoyed a virgin Spooky (their signature cocktail named after one of the property's cats) which was made of "guanábana" (soursop) pulp and "flor de Jamaica" (hibiscus tea)

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay at DoceLunas. Just a couple of things to keep in mind (they did not affect us, but some other travelers out there might find this information handy)

1. Our room (#106) did not come equipped with a telephone. It is listed as one of the amenities in the room but ours didn't have one available. It didn't make a difference to us, but it could represent a problem if you are trying to reach the front desk and don't want to walk out of your room.

2. The property has a fair number of cats on site (about seven of them, we were told). They are friendly and can become pretty comfortable with you if you allow them (i.e. my husband ended up petting a cat on his lap while enjoying a cocktail at the bar.) However, if you choose to ignore them, chances are you will not be bothered by cats.

3. Wi-fi connection is available in all the property. However, I had troubles getting signal from our room (located on the first floor). I simply took my phone to the second floor and enjoyed the view of the swimming pool and gardens from the corridor upstairs.

I stayed at Docelunas with my family over thanksgiving a few years ago. It was the best hotel experience of my life! The staff is very friendly- everyone from the manager to the bartender. They really do a great job of making everyone feel welcome. They played a movie for us on their screen under a cabana, and they even made us a full American thanksgiving dinner, turkey and all. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the pool is perfect. The rooms are very nice as well. Docelunas is a quick ride to Jaco, where we learned how to surf and got cheap saki bombs, and the best fish tacos I've ever had. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone interested in going to Costa Rica!

Doce Lunas was the perfect place for me to get a much needed break. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is relaxing and the food is great. Chris (owner) and Brian (manager) were so accomodating, friendly and helpful. Plus, they have great personalities and are enjoyable to hang out with during the dinner hours. They are also very knowledgable about the area and can make great recommendations for things to do. Miles, the chef, has created a new menu and everything I tried was outstanding!

The front desk staff, Marco and Horatio, were fantastic and were able to provide activity reservations and great recommendations for places to go and see in Jaco as well as other neighboring villages. Very pleasant gentlemen.

The town and the beach are about a 3 mintue cab ride. I loved being just outside the town. The nights were quiet and cool and at the end of busy days I could fall asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Doce Lunas again. It's definitely the place to make your home base while you travel around the area and out onto the beaches. The bathrooms are huge! Something completely unexpected yet refreshing.

If I had one recommendation to make, it would be that the bedding package needs to be upgraded, but don't get me wrong, it doesn't deter from what a great place Doce Lunas is. Just a suggestion.

Thanks Chris, Brian and staff for everything!!

Flying into Costa Rica, you quickly realize how beautiful the landscape is. It was about an hour long cab ride to Jaco, with plenty of scenery to take in along the way. And then when you reach DoceLunas it is like walking into Paradise. I attended the "Jungle Jam" and had a blast, the performers were top notch and the resort as a venue, was amazing! The staff was everything that you would expect in such a fine resort, friendly and helpful.
The beach is about 5 minutes away, the mountains 5 minutes the other way. This is a great place to stay in a great little town.

Attended the "Jungle Jam" here in February, 2012. It was fantastic! Music in the outdoors with people dancing in the grass with bare feet - like the 70's all over again!!. Music by Ryan Montbleau band was crisp, creative and lots of fun. (Got several of his songs from iTunes the next day!) Beer was cold, the staff were friendly and helpful. Owner Chris was on hand as always to chat and help create a wonderful evening which we will remember for a long time. Huge thanks to Chris for making the effort to bring these groups to Jaco. Hope you and Emilio enjoy the plumeria plant! A gift to thank you for all you do... See you next year...
