My new bride and I stayed at Jaco Laguna for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! It wasn't crowded whatsoever. The food was delicious, and the blended cocktails were made with real fruit! They gave us a free meal in which they let us choose anything off the menu for our honeymoon. The staff was really friendly and accomodated all our needs! Most of the staff didn't speak much English but if you're decent at Spanish you can communicate pretty easily. Scott, a sort of manager is American and was always around during the day and gave us restaurant reccomendations, upgraded our room, and helped us with our Spanish. He was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We didn't have international calling plans for our cell phones and the hotel doesn't have wifi so we had to find an internet center downtown to let our families know we made it to our destination but the internet center only charged 50 cents an hour and they were all over the place. We really enjoyed talking to Rosie, the bartender at the hotel Tiki bar. She was very friendly and spoke the best English out of all the Costa Rican staff. She also took 30 minutes out of her shift to take some honeymoon photos for us! The tiki bar didn't open til 2:00 so it would have been nice if there was a refrigerator in the room. Also, I would have liked it if there was a couch or chairs in the room rather than just a bed. The room was cleaned well everyday, and we were able to flush our toilet paper, which I'm told is not a guarantee in Costa Rica. At some places the plumbing can't handle it and you need to put toilet paper in the trash. We rented surf boards from the hotel for $20 a day, and whenever we asked the receptionist to call us a cab it picked us up within 5 minutes. Overall we both loved the quiet atmosphere of the Jaco Laguna with beach on one side, rainforest on the other, and a $3.00 taxi ride to downtown. Many of the other hotels we saw looked dumpy and rundown. We would definitely like to return to Jaco and wouldn't hesitate to stay at Jaco Laguna again!
