Idyllic location at the south end of Jaco beach. Beautifully kept grounds, great staff, awesome pool, amazing beach. However - it's close to the highway, and there's a fair amount of road noise, especially the big trucks and their engine brakes, all night long. And the beds are rock-hard (we asked for an extra comforter to sleep on). Also, it's not close to downtown Jaco - a cab ride is required, tho it's only $4. Another nit - the wifi isn't overly strong - we had to lean over the balcony to get it sometimes. But in a nutshell - I'd go back there in a heartbeat :)

Ten of us were there for a bachelor party. We had a great time, the owner of the hotel was very friendly, as was the staff and they were very accommodating. We went out fishing and had a fantastic time brought the catch back and they cooked it up 3 ways, all expertly prepared. The desk people were always there to help out calling cabs, arraigning an ATV trip which was supper, recommending places to go,shop, and see. Several of us had massages at the on site Spa which was excellent. We even had one person in our party who had some issues with too much alcohol and the staff dealt with him in a firm and appropriate manner without ruining the trip for the other nine. I would highly recommend this excellent well maintained, clean hotel with excellent accommodations.

We throughly enjoyed our 5 nights at Club del Mar. The property is gorgeous right on the beach with a pool in the middle. It offers everything you need- quality food, tours, and great surfing right on the beach. It is a short taxi ride- $4 to the main part of Jaco but secluded enough to relax and catch some sun. We had the 2 bedroom condo which had a great amount of room, kitchen, washer & drier, 2 bath rooms and air cons in each room. It was the perfect place to relax with our little 5 month old son. We would definitely go back!

Sometimes we like to get away for the weekend and just concentrate on relaxing. Or as my wife calls it.. a sort of second honeymoon! It was ideal from the very efficient receptionist who is only a few steps from the bar so that I could have a drink before checking into our room which was super clean and very nicely furnished.

A quick shower to freshen up after the drive and then a late lunch from the extensive menu.. My choice was simple: a fish with french fries and side salad. It was very good and came on a hot plate which was a nice touch. So many places serve hot food on ice cold plates..duh!!

That night they had a book signing plus music which was enjoyed by all. A light evening meal with some nice red wine and we were ready for bed.

Breakfast the next morning was excellent.........and very reasonably priced. Then for some time by the central pool and then a stroll on the beach. A great place to unwind

Everything was fantastic: the staff, the food, the pool, the room, the bar, the spa, the massage, the surfing and the many excursions they can hook up for you. But I like to ride bikes and was looking for something more challenging that was not advertised. So I asked...and the within 24 hours they had hooked me up with a surf camp that rented me a bike and a great guide (Marswell). He and a friend took me for an incredible ride. It was hard, with a lot of climbing, but exactly what I was looking for. 3 hours in the rain forest, with views that only the locals get to enjoy. So if you go and like to bike, don't forget to ask.

I was there for a week long family vacation. Overall I would strongly recommend this hotel for the recreational traveler, particularly if you want to use it as a base for day trips around the area.

Checkin is open air, efficient and friendly. The buildings are small, low rise, and arranged around the central pool area. We had a 2 bedroom condo, which was very clean and had a good sized living/dining area with galley style kitchen. We were on the ground floor, with 2 sets of sliding doors opening onto the lawn by the pool (no unit is more than about 50 meters from the pool). Beds/linens were good and the A/C worked effectively. Overall it was quite nice.

Wifi Internet access was available in the common area and since our unit was close, we could access from some of the rooms or the little patio outside our condo. Most of the units would not be able to access the wifi. Speeds were good though.

The whole property was very well maintained and the pool area was spotless. Pool water was crystal clear and the pool itself was obviously very well maintained. We spent some wonderful quality time by this pool:)

The restaurant was decent, with good breakfasts and lots of local seafood. However, it was wayyyy overpriced for what it was. As a result, there was hardly ever anyone there. Not sure what the owner is thinking, as reasonable reduction in price would surely lead to a significant increase in business. As it is, everyone leaves the building to eat. All the guests I spoke to all said the same thing (same with drink prices).

One thing I thought was kind of odd was that the owner of the property was there most of the time, but never once introduced himself. This is a small resort. I was there with a family of 6, for a week and not once did he even make eye contact or say hello, let alone be friendly and buy me a drink. Certainly didn't impact my trip, but seemed a little odd for a guy in the hospitality biz.

This whole property is right on the beach, at the very southern end of Jaco Beach, which is definitely the best part of this 5-7km long beach. It is a dark sand beach, which was perfectly fine, but those looking for a white, icing sugar-like Caribbean beach will be disappointed. That said we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the beach. My young kids loved it.

We were there mainly to learn to surf and there is a great surf school that is affiliated with the hotel and does lessons just in front of the hotel. I have reviewed the del mar surf school separately, so wont do it again here, but suffice it to say the whole family learned to surf and had a great time doing it. Which leads me to the waves...there are some and at times they can be 4-6'. We had a great time and my 8 & 10 yr olds loved playing in them, boogey boarding, body surfing, and surfing. But if you are looking for dead calm, this is not your beach. Oh yeah, the hotel will rent you the boards, but again, the prices are are way out of whack. If you are going to be doing it for a few days you are much better to take a few minutes and go to one of the nearby local surf shops for your rentals. For more advanced surfers, Playa Hermosa is a 5 minute drive further south and the waves get really big there!

The truck noise - yeah, its there. I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to it. we certainly noticed it, but did not find it overbearing. In fact, for the most part it just became occasional background noise. That said, our condo was further away from the road and protected by the main building, so the noise might have been worse in other locations on the property. Best bet would be to request a condo on the left side (looking at the resort from the beach) of the pool.

There is lots to see and do in the area. We went to Antonio Manuel National Park, which was a fun all day trip. Also did ziplining which was awesome. There are all kinds of fun adventure activities to do in the immediate area, it really is just a question of picking which most suits your taste/wallet.

Jaco itself is OK. A bit on the run-down side, but with lots of surf/watersports shops and bars/restaurants. Favourite restaurants included the Tacobar (best prices and did a good breakfast), Lemonzest (excellent & pricey), and Wishbones.

Will we go back - absolutely!

Room Tip: Definitely learn to surf there. Also, they do a great ocean-side yoga class.
