If you stay in Jaco, I recommend Hotel Club del Mar. It's out of town, and quieter, being the southern-most ocean-side resort in Jaco. The grounds are beautiful, as is the pool. It's family-friendly (there were several families w/ young kids) and not a loud party resort, which we definitely did not want! We had one of the condo units (#14.) Huge BR with walk-in closet, LR, kitchen and dinette, all well-appointed. Definitely not a hotel room. There are 2 sets of sliding glass doors overlooking the ocean, one in the BR, one in the dinette/LR. The beach and ocean are right there on the property. I took surfing lessons (booked through the hotel) and simply walked out to the beach. The restaurant was open-air and good although after 4 days the menu started to get boring. Nearby is a great waterfall hike and Caterra National Park. Both were wonderful. We booked these trips through the Hotel and our guide both days was Sergio. Sergio was very knowledgeable and a nice guy; ask for him if you go on a tour. We had a great stay, although our two visits to town confirmed what the tour books say--the town itself is somewhat seedy. The parks etc nearby made up for that.
