We just returned from a family wedding at Villa Caletas. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful it was. The staff was especially warm and friendly and did everything they could to help make our stay memorable. We will definitely be back. The rooms are unique and offer breathtaking views of the Pacific. We enjoyed coffee each morning on our terrace listening to the sounds of the rain forest. We cannot say enough about this beautiful place!

What a fabulous resort! Attention to every detail! From arrival to departure the staff was very attentive. We visited the spa for one of the most luxurious massages. We wandered the beautiful property enjoying the toucans, hummingbirds and the stunning views. We made the best choice staying here for our 30th anniversary!

We just spent 5 nights here & absolutely adored the property + its location! Following our stay, we drove north to the Guanacaste region for 5 nights & spent the entire time wishing we could go back! Upon arrival, the rain was so thick we couldn't even see the road - so we weren't even sure where we were going which is a bit disorienting - it rained every day at some point...but, watching the lightning strikes & feeling the intense downpour after having such a drought back home in California? We absolutely loved it! Not only are you nestled at the mountaintop amidst intense, lush vegetation - you have the opportunity to experience Costa Rica for what it truly is. You can expect to see spiders, lizards, giant toads, tree frogs, geckos, coati, and even blue crabs at any given moment of the day! We were in Bungalo 12, which had a beautiful view of the bay - but anytime you wanted to leave the property or head to the restaurant- you were definitely drenched in humidity from all of the climbing up/down stairs - if you want to be closer to your vehicle - be sure to ask for a room near reception. We were told by guests that the rooms overlooking Jaco had resident Toucans they saw regularly! The staff was wonderful - the food was consistently divine & our only complaint would be that there is no way to enjoy the balcony or leave windows open to enjoy the night sounds of the jungle - we highly suggest the resort add screens to keep the bugs out + let the atmosphere in! It wasn't until our last day that we headed down to the hotel's beach area & it was absolutely delightful! Gorgeous view with sandy areas to dig in, pebbles to explore & a feeling of 'escape' - even saw a Monkey on the way! Our 6 yr old LOVED the entire experience. Jaco Beach is just about 15 mins away for tons of Tourist shopping or local eats & Manuel Antonio Park is about 2 hrs if you hit traffic. Carara National Park is 20 mins drive & a beautiful place to explore! If we ever find ourselves in Costa Rica again!? We will be booking at this Oasis in a heartbeat!!

I have nothing negative to say about this place. First of all, the staff is beyond accommodating and nice! They catered to our every need. The grounds itself is so amazingly beautiful. The views are some of the nicest I've ever seen in my life. We scheduled all our adventures with the hotel once we got there and they were all wonderful. The food is impeccable and so are the rooms. I had a great massage there and the pool is breathtaking. The private rock beach was so nice. I didn't feel like their pictures did it justice. We went at low tide with our water shoes and walked all over the rocks that disappeared as soon as the tide came up. The beach has covered bed cabanas, a food bar and alcohol. look at my pictures to see the table they set up for us during lunch time. We went on the crocodile tour and the zip line tour. We loved the hotel so much, we didn't want to leave! I was skeptical to bring my 13 yo daughter because I heard it was such romantic place but she was well received and treated like a princess. I give this place a 10!

Room Tip: I think we had one of the best rooms. We had a master suite with it's own, very large, private i...

We stayed 6 days in a junior suite for our honeymoon. I couldn't have asked for a better location. There's little better than relaxing in the hot tub on the balcony, while looking out on the Pacific Ocean, and listening to the sounds of nature. Upon entering the room we were greeted by a toucan in a tree. One night we saw a tree sloth in the tree off the balcony. We even experienced a thunderstorm from the hot tub on the balcony. It was amazing watching the storm roll in over the ocean, then seeing the mist rise off of the tree cover.

The sunsets from the infinity pool must be seen to be believed. Every night is a different show. The most striking was seeing a lightning storm beside the changing colors of the sun.

One thing to be prepared for is the cost of food and drinks at the otherwise excellent restaurant. We had lunch our first day there for $80 with two meals and two drinks. Expect to pay US prices. It is a resort, so you get what you pay for.

We hiked down to the private beach, which is another excellent feature of the resort. Be sure to find the waterfalls just off the path.

We loved Villa Caletas and are planning our next visit.

For our wedding, we decided to take a trip to Costa Rica. The (now) Mrs looked everywhere for a place that had JUST that view and feel that she wanted, and settled on Villa Caletas. Boy, was she right. Villa Caletas is AMAZING. First, when you turn onto their drive, prepare for an ascent into the heavens. Caletas is built, LITERALLY, on the top of a mountain. Their "driveway" is a mile long, if its an inch, almost straight up. Its scary because there is really nothing keeping you from tumbling down the side of mountain, except for some flower pots, and the view down is arresting. I've jumped out of a plane, but looking out and down on the world from Villa Caletas's driveway, even made me pause for a second to collect myself. Upon arriving at reception, the impressiveness continued. Caletas is carved right out of the rainforest; a swath of small villas intertwined with the jungle. There are only about 30 rooms at Villa Caletas, so it has a much more remote and intimate feel to it than, say, the Marriott. In short, I never felt like I was at a "hotel." Our reservation was for a junior suite, and after being given the KEYS, (like, actual, proper KEYS) to our gated walkway, front door and safe, we were off to our room. The room was small, but still somehow spacious, with a main room, separate bedroom, and bathroom. The crowning jewel was a totally private balcony overlooking the ocean, complete with table, hammock and jacuzzi. Beautiful. We dropped our bags and went to check out where the wedding would take place, and Villa Caletas has the rare distinction of being one of those places that looks EXACTLY like the pictures. Again, the view was amazing. (Its important to note that Villa Caletas is actually the lower tier of a dual resort. Their other location, Zephyr Palace is apparently WORLD CLASS.) Since this review is about the hotel, and not the wedding, I won't go too deep, but I'll just say that for anyone looking for a place to get married, you can't do much better than Villa Caletas. I can't really find the words to do the positives of Villa Caletas justice. There are passion fruit trees, raining fruit down as you walk the winding trails through the compound. The ground in front of you comes alive with each step, as geckos and brightly colored frogs scurry to avoid your step. Toucans and hawks dive in and out of view, darting from tree to tree. It is a visual masterpiece. The staff are frustratingly awesome. The waiters remembered our names. The maid saw (was not told or asked) that we had chargers plugged in, and some waiting to be plugged in, so she brought an extension cord on her next visit. When it rained, bellman walked around handing out umbrellas. The pool man, already weighted down with hoses and tubes and pool skimmers and bags of chemicals offered to carry my bags when he saw me walking with it. It was insane. We didn't have a single problem that the staff couldn't or didn't resolve QUICKLY and correctly.

Its not ALL gilded lillies though. Villa Caletas IS expensive. We had a Groupon, so that was the only way we could afford it. The meals at the restaurants on site were pricey (not TERRIBLY so) and the price for the wedding itself was astronomical. There are also many stairs, and a good deal of distance between most of the rooms. My brother stayed at the opposite end of Villa Caletas from us, and it WAS quite a trek to get to his room and back. I'm in excellent shape, but even I was out of breath by the time I got there. (full disclosure, you won't really mind the walk though, since the view through the forest is just so awesome.) If you ask me or the wife though, we'd tell you it was worth it. Both of us remarked, "but I don't want to leave Caletas!," when it came time to move down the street to the Marriott. If and when we make it back to Costa Rica, I'm definitely looking into Villa Caletas again.

Room Tip: I recommend the Junior Suites. Wifi in room, private balcony with hammock and jacuzzi!

My husband surprised me with a trip for my birthday, and we stayed at the Villa Caletas for 4 nights. It was amazing. We went in June, which is the rainy season. It would rain sometimes at night, and maybe half an hour in the daytime. The weather didn't hold us up at all. The staff was great! So friendly and accommodating. We loved them. Since we went during their off season only one of the restaurants was open, but the food was pretty good too, and of course the coffee was amazing. There weren't a lot of people staying at the resort so it seemed very private, and our hotel room seemed very secluded. We had a view of the ocean and the rain forest with a Jacuzzi on the balcony. It was perfect and romantic. There are a lot of stairs, but we didn't mind. It wasn't a fault or set back. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean was just perfect. The spa was amazing. Seriously, we had one of the best massages ever. You will not be sorry. The only down side of the spa is that the walls seem pretty thin, so we can hear the children screaming and people talking outside. People did bring their children. although I don't know why. It really is a resort that is perfect for couples. It is relaxing and romantic. There weren't any onsite activities for the kids, so they basically seemed bored. All in all my husband and I absolutly loved this place and will not hesitate to come back!
