“Breathtaking!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Truly romantic hotel with the best views in the area. The hotel reminds me of an Italian retreat that has been swallowed by the jungle. The infinity pool is gorgeous and appears to meet the sky. Great service, they make you feel special. Highly recommend for romance.

We wanted to spend our 40th Wedding Anniversary at a memorable place, where we could relax and enjoy good service and food. Villa Caletas was that and much, much more. Our own suite was exptremely private, which we had never had before. Beautiful view, wild birds, hot tub, and very speical towel animals on our bed every night made by our room service.

The food was excellent, the beach, pool and spa soothing, the people always helpful and kind. We recommend this as the place to go for peace and relaxation. Thank you Villa Caletas!

Room Tip: We had a junior suite - it was fabulous for the two of us.

We stayed in Villa Caletas many times and absolutely loved it.
It felt like we were staying in an enchanted castle, a resort far away from Earth, above everything....truly beautiful and relaxing....
We loved it so much that we have chosen this place for our Wedding, in April 2012.
We had a magical wedding, and Miss Pilar was great help, amazing lady who helped us organize our dream day.
Will definitely return.
Excellent service, breath taking accommodation (we stayed in one of the private villas), recommend if you wanna explore Costa Rica's finest.

This hotel was recommended to us by a travel agent. It has one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. You can see the sunset and water from your room. Ours had a 50 foot balcony with Jacuzzi. The staff are warm, professional, and the food is amazing. I would recommend this as a 5 star and worth every penny. I actually have never felt this way before but feel I may have been "under charged". We saw a man propose and it was extremely romantic and peaceful. Very relaxing. The room had no detail overlooked either. Jaco can be considered a huge party spot, this is only 10 minutes away but is an oasis of tranquility. Top 10 favorite hotels ever!

Room Tip: You will have a good walk (5 minutes) to the amenities but the view is worth it!

We were there with 2 grandchildren in July 2013. Having read previous reviews I had e-mailed the hotel management to keep us in an easily accessible villa. Problem # 1: This was completely ignored and we were given a remote villa (#15) which could only be accessed by climbing 108 steep stairs from where we had parked the car. Problem # 2: To get to the villa, you also have to walk through some narrow paths over which large spiders have woven web canopies under which you must walk. Don't look up! Therefore, we made sure to get back during daylight and either had early dinners or ordered room service to avoid walking on these paths after dark. Problem #3: The villa was small and there was very limited space to store our clothes: 5 hangers and 4 shelves for a party of 4. The children had small beds in the sitting area and the adults shared a small bedroom without door. Overall we were very cramped in the villa. Positive point # 1: We faced East and enjoyed gorgeous view and sunrise with visits and concerts from Toucans. #2: The service was good and the food, although expensive, was good. #3: We had gotten this through a Groupon so the cost was reasonable. #4: The beach was rocky but kids had fun finding crabs and enjoyed the trip there and back. You can get snacks and cocktails there.
If I was to return to CR, I would not stay there and I made the management aware of that. Travelers planning to stay at Villa Caletas should clear the details of their location with the management ahead of time. Do not stay there without renting a car, which by itself is another struggle {read ripoff} in CR.

Room Tip: Higher number villas have many stairs to reach (100 or more). Find out where you will be and whether...

Dear Friends, thank you very much for your review. As i explained to another reviewer The Spiders you refereeing to are Nephila clavipes ( a species of Golden orb-web spider). As you might know, the hotel is working hard to respect nature around and is deeply involved in Sustainable Tourism. We try not to kill or use pesticide in the hotel. Even though we try to relocate these spiders each and every day, it is hard for us as during this moment of the year their population tend to grow in a exponential way. I want to underline that these Golden orb web spider are harmless for human. We are happy to know that you have enjoyed the view from your room and the resort in itself. We are sorry about the stairs to go to your room, but as you have seen the hotel being on the top of a mountain, stairs are hard to avoyed. Best regards, manager@villacaletas.com

Amazing stay and beautiful views. The dusk ceremony with the music as the sun sets every evening is a bucket list experience. Great room, service, and attention. Next trip to CR, I will definately come back. If you want action though, then head down to the town of Jaco as this is for those who truly want to relax. The infinity pool was great as well

We spent the night in Room 1 on July 19, 2013. Large balcony overlooking the Pacific. Unfortunately, our balcony was infested with very large brown / black spiders. Housekeeping twice attempted to rid the spiders. These very large spiders infest the entire property living in webs over all the walkways. Either the management thinks spiders are part of the ambiance, or are doing a bad job.

The view and service was great , but the food and spiders sucked

Room Tip: If you sleep there , make sure your balcony is clean from large black / brown spiders that infest th...
