Excellent Experience from beginning to end. Staff was top notch, exceeded every expectation.

Product was outstanding and memorable, a "once in a lifetime" experience for most. Staff went above an beyond to service our group.

Food was outstanding in restaurants and at catered functions.

Room Tip: Master Suites are very private & offer an awesome view.

We have just returned from a multi stay tour of Costa Rica, including the fantastic, stay at villa caletas - the staff, food & accomodation was first class. The view from the amphitheatre at sunset was especially spectacular, whilst sipping the various cocktails. We saw plenty of wildlife in the hotel gardens & the hotel has a infinity pool too which we had the pleasure of using.I would definately recommend this hotel. Our paticular room had two bathrooms.
John & Rebecca from England.

Room Tip: Ask for room with two bathrooms, as not all rooms are the same layout etc.

Upon making a reservation, 5 months in advance, our credit card information was stolen by the hotel staff and we were charged $1,200. The bank refunded the money but it took my time and energy. We usually stay in 5star or luxury hotels. This hotel is not even close to such rating. The place in extremely overpriced as noted in other reviews. You may find many places with the gorgeous ocean view and tranquility in CR. The beach access is inconvenient. It takes 20 min in a pickup truck on a bumpy road to reach it and, when there are more than 10 people, one has to wait for another 40 minutes; the hike to the beach takes about 1 hour downhill, uphill is very steep. The food was good but too expensive. Breakfast is not included in a $500/night rate and may cost $20-$30/person. Before making a reservation I asked if beds were soft or hard and was reassured they were all soft but they are so hard that I asked for an additional mattress top to make it somewhat softer. Well, it didn't help much. The place is distant from Jaco and a taxi round trip is $40. Restaurants in Jaco are good but taxi is the only way reaching anything. The main criteria for any place or hotel are the desire to come back. This resort doesn’t evoke such feeling. If you want to spend less money while getting more satisfaction from your vacation, look elsewhere.

Dear reviewer ( you will notice that i am not using the word "friend" for the very first time in answering a review). As you and everybody can see, i always take the time to answer reviews, being good, bad or worse. It sometime can be challenging when guests have complains over the hotel and the service we give. Nevertheless there is one thing that i will not let go is the use of words or description of our work/ staff that is totally defamatory. I believe that the space that trip advisor gives to travelers should not be use to post libels. Best regards. manager@villacaletas.com

I have traveled to CR frequently over the last 10 years and stayed at most of the better hotels throughout the country. The basic problem most every place has in CR is that there is no proper school to train management, so service is awkward. Many people are well intentioned but things are run in a nonsensical, impractical way that is not always geared towards comfort. This is true of Villa Caletas as well.

First about Jaco: A tourist trap. Avoid if you can-you will always feel like people just want your money. Exorbitant prices for bad food abound. Better to go to Manuel Antonio if you want beach.

About Vila Caletas:

Unlike many, I actually thought the restaurant was excellent. Consistently, this is some of the best food I have had in CR and the service was spot on (and I am a NYC foodie). Great sunset. Come for the food, not the hotel. Meal prices are decent and fair, not a bargain but worth it.

In terms of the rooms, I had rented several rooms for family, but mine was a Master Suite (the largest room available). In short, the whole place is like a Hollywood set trying to exude luxury but not actually luxurious. No one who designed the rooms has actually stayed there-it is not live-able. Let me summarize:

1) Bathroom for such a room is way too small and cramped. When you put soap on soap dish by sink, the soap slides off and falls into garbage.
2) Nice private pool-enjoyed it and pool guy was very good about preparing it. Bugs abound, so it is important to close the patio door-except there is no door handle on the outside, so no way to close it. Even if you do manage to close it, there is no latch or spring to keep it closed (I had to wedge a pad of papers underneath it).
3) The suite is composed of a Garden with an outer door and the villa inside the garden. You enter the villa with an electronic card key. You must enter the outside garden through a metal door with a regular metal key. Problem is that if someone comes (e.g. room service), you must leave the villa walk a fair distance over the Lilly Pond to open the garden door and escort them back. No way to buzz people in. It gets old quickly.
4) Nice desk but no plugs at all nearby to plug in laptop-so not practical. In fact very few plugs throughout the room.
5) Steps abound everywhere in circuitous fashion to get rooms. Often it is a maze to get from one room to another (as it was since we had several rooms). No handrails often, so if it is dark and you are tipsy - potential for harm, particularly as frogs may line the steps at night.
6) Bell hop carried bags into room but really showed us nothing about the room-struggled to figure out how to lower the mechanical TV, work the AC etc,
7) Except for reception, English proficiency much less than in most other hotels-getting room service or making restaurant reservations proved to be difficult.
8) Internet spotty throughout the place but my room was good as the router was in the closet.

The rest of our family had similar complaints with our other two rooms.

So overall, you could do worse in Jaco; room not worth the price point but restaurant is.

It's worth it unfortunately I had no $$$ to stay for one night, we called and it was to late all rooms booked!!!

This hotel is rather expensive, but for the extra money you enjoy a very beautiful setting; a lovely infinity pool (nice cool temp!); experience a unique sunset and best of all...it's very peaceful. The staff is very accommodating but you have to be looking for quiet here...not much happening after dinner. It would have been nice if they had some live entertainment!!
It's 1.5 km up hill off the main road but one day we hiked the road for a challenging workout. I must also mention that there was a very well equipped open aired gym with a fabulous view! The rocky beach is over the hill and down the other side; worth checking out at low tide but not for swimming.
We enjoyed our stay here; it was a special treat but you don't need to stay more than 2 nights. Thank goodness because that's all we could afford!

Room Tip: If you don't mind sharing a bathroom with the other couple you are travelling with, opt for a ju...

Let me start by saying this hotel has Great views and one of the most beautiful pools in the world, This hotel is all about relaxing and great views. My wife and I like this hotel and who would not ?. We are more active on vacation then relaxing so with that be said it was a little more laid back then we perfer. but if you perfer relaxing and tranquillty this is the best you will get in Costa Rica. This place is unique and beatiful, The rooms are very nice and private you feel like your staying in a mansion not a hotel. sunset at this hotel is quite frankly AWESOME !! and it is a big deal at this hotel. This hotel is 4.5 star and the views and pool is a 5.0 star.

Room Tip: You should try to get a room that faces the ocean to take advantage of the stunning views.
