Us: relatively hip 35 year old couple traveling with our 22 month old and 3.5 year old. We have lots of experience traveling in costa.
Trip: we stayed 3 days in the selvamar cabins. The upgrade to the room with porch was worth it. Room was bigger and we were able to enjoy the noises of jungle outside on our porch while kids napped and went to bed earlier than us.
Pros: beautiful. Secluded. Good food ( we did the 3 meal a day plan). Pools were perfect for traveling with toddlers. They loved it and we were able to relax and enjoy. There was a trampoline, outside game room, volleyball courts, piñata activity- plenty for kiddos to enjoy. Playa Blanca was spectacular- one of the prettiest beaches in costa rica. we felt safe here. Costa can be shady, theft is rampant especially in touristy areas, but this place is gated and far from any outside traffic.
Cons- a little pricely for the budget traveler-$177 a night. The beach in front of pools is not that nice. The place is best enjoyed if you have your own car to get around. Nothing is in walking distance.
Overall, we definitely go back while our kids are still young.
