I had a light dinner at the Tacobar. This was two fish tacos that were absolutely wonderful. The best fish tacos I've had since Baja. One was dorado and the other squid. Both were perfect and there is a nice offering of assorted hot sauces. Now, $11 for 2 tacos is not an inexpensive meal. That said, Jacó is tourist central and generally expensive. 5 stars for everything but the price!
I give the lady at the ordering window high marks for her clear explanation of how to order the tacos - the menu is pretty busy. I heard her doing an equally clear presentation in English with another customer.
The next morning I was in a bit of a hurry to get going and Tacobar was the closest open place to my hotel. They advertise a $3 breakfast - something I found suspicious. In fact, they will give you one of several options for $3, plus tax. However, a smallish cup of low quality coffee will add $2, plus tax, to your bill. No refills or warmups. In all, it will be close to double the advertised $3 for your meal.
They really seemed to be pushing assorted pricey frappuccinos and smoothies. The breakfast (rice and beans, eggs, a salad, and plain white bread) was fine, but I object to the $3 come-on. I don't do well without some real caffeine in the AM.
Really, you can do as well, or better, in any of a number of places in central Jacó. You can also get an honest cup of joe and, perhaps, either real home baked bread or tortillas.
