“Well located although very noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

Stayed there 2 nights.

We were 2 girls the first night so we booked a double bedroom w/ shared bathroom in the main house. The bedroom was right next to the terrace where people was relaxing.

2night we were in a dormitory, as we were 5. Less noisy as the dormitory is at the back of the house.

Despite the noise, the place is great has it has a great kitchen, relaxing areas both in and out of the house.

The beach is 5min walk from the hostel which makes a good value for money

We stayed for 3 nights in the new annex building. We paid 35 dollars a night for a two bed private bathroom room. Jaco Inn has a main building with a kitchen, tv room, dorms and porch with chairs and hammocks, an old annex building and a new annex building with 4 rooms (two bed private bathroom). Our room in the new annex building was great. It was very clean and had a very sturdy bunk bed (lowest bed a 1,5 bed and top bed a single. There's also a table and two chairs and a bathroom. The shower doesn't have hot water but it was 40+ degrees celcius when we stayed there so it didn't bother us. The room had a ceiling fan too. Overall the room looked quite new, not more than 2 years old.
The kitchen in the main building was very clean and there was a fridge free to use. Only half of the stove was working though.
The other rooms which were not in the new annex building didn't look that good, so if you're gonna stay at Jaco Inn, get a room in the new building, then you'll be happy!
The staff was friendly although there isn't an actual reception, so getting in contact with the staff could get difficult at times. Also the staff wasn't that good at giving information if you asked about the bus departure times for instance. Overall we're very pleased with our stay and we would stay there again.

I spent a night in Jaco on a Saturday night while not finding any other option. The dorm was OK, although the cleanliness could really improve!

There was a leech in the shower and a few other insects dead on the floor in corners of the room.

So Yes, we are in a tropical place, but still...

The lady of the front was particularly cold, and almost unwelcoming, it's only after speaking spanish that she got a bit more opened. A warm welcome to the clients would definitely make a difference and make them feel "welcome".

The night was full of mosquitos, so thanks to my insect repellent otherwise you just get eaten.

The morning was maybe the worst, as we got awakened by the TV of main room, the kid of the family who runs it...i believe, just decided to put it loud. (not a damn idea that at 6:30 am the clients may want to sleep a bit more). And finally the kitchen smoke invaded the room, so it was impossible to sleep more.

Location is good, that's for sure. But I think you'd rather pay a bit more and go to Hostel Buddha which is next door, I haven't had the chance to sleep there, but it seemed to fullfill all qualitative points.

Room Tip: Maybe opt for a double room. you may have more privacy than the dorms.

This hostel was very nice, just within minutes to Jaco beach, rooms were clean and nice, we met a great backpackers over there and service of this place was great too. We stayed in the private rooms so we cannot comment on dormitories

The staff is not friendly. We had a horrible room upstairs. It's not really a room, it has weird plastic windows covered with shower curtains. We changed to Buddha House - same price and sooooo much better!!

I can´t belive that somebody could like this hostal. It is dirty and looks very poor. Unfortunately we had no choice as it was very late. I wouldn´t stay there for the next night even if I were paid. The only good thing was the porch.

I've stayed here last year and then again this year for 3 nights. The rooms are reasonable, $12 pp/night for the dorms. The parking lot has a locking gate if you are worried about getting your rental car broken into. There are a few different caretakers, and only one that I've met doesn't speak much English, but I saw other guests who didn't speak any Spanish able to communicate with him and get help with their calling cards, etc. Rooms are clean, bathrooms are too. It's a short walk to the beach (2 blocks approx.) and is located in the middle of the main street in Jaco, so you can walk to souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, surf shops, etc.
