“Good Spot if on a Budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

If you are a college student on a budget /surfer or just cant afford a high end hotel, this is a solid hotel. The grounds are well kept. The staff is nice and attentive. The rooms are a bit dated but very clean. Free WiFi and breakfast is included in the rate. Direct beach access and 2 pools one with a swim up bar. Casino on sight if you are into that. If flying into San Jose rent a car because taxi service will be $100.00 each way. You can also take a bus similar to a greyhound bus for about $30.00 each way. Security is solid so that's not an issue. Insider tip..book on expedia as you can get a good rate. Im not big fan but was the most solid rate I could find.

Room Tip: most of the rooms are two double beds

My wife and I go the Living Social deal and went down in mid July which is the very beginning of the 'rainy season'. It would rain for 30 min or so most days, 1 night it stormed. So be aware of that if you want to travel to Jaco in September or October it might be raining a lot.

The grounds were really nice and well maintained. The staff was 90% great. The rooms are basic hotel rooms and that is just fine with us, especially when we figured we were getting room and all-inclusive meals for $100 a night.

If you get an all-inclusive deal, just be aware that it is a limited menu for that part of the deal. The dinner menu typically consists of 2 options for appetizer/entree with 1 option for dessert. There is a full menu there also if you choose to order off of that. Breakfast was the same menu each day and had many good options. We usually were off property and sight-seeing for lunch. I will say that the food on the all-inclusive menu was VERY VERY GOOD. And it does change each day. So you do get some variety.

The owner is really nice. He is approachable and usually sitting at the bar each night. We had some nice chats with him and when we were in a bind getting back to the airport he took us himself. Now that is someone who wants to do right by his customers.

The town itself is really nice. Lots of shops. It took a $3 cab ride to get to town. If you wanted, you could walk as well. We also tried some of the restaurants in town and they were very good! For excursions we went to Manuel Antonio Park which is about 80 min away I believe. It was really nice. We had a personal driver which was cheaper than most places charge for a group rate. Facebook me if you want his contact info.

Also we went zip-lining and on a day cruise to a touristy island to hang out for a day. It was a very fun trip and we would definitely go back.

Wonderful place to stay. We went during the off-season and absolutely loved it. Jaco is not a touristy destination. The people are very laid back and no one hassles you as a tourist. Costa Rica is not the place for you if you are looking for a lazy vacation tanning on the beach. This is the place to go if you are looking for a little more adventure (zip-line tours, four-wheeling, rappelling, surfing, etc). Rent a motorcycle or a car. There are so many wonderful places not far from Jaco that are worth visiting and having your own transportation makes it so much easier.

The hotel was wonderful. My husband was a little caught off guard when we first arrived, because the entire property is open-air, from the front desk to the restaurant, but ended up loving it. The scenery around the hotel is breathtaking, with macaws that roost in one of the trees, the family of iguanas, and much more. While the rooms and restaurant are not actually "on" the beach, you can watch the tide as you eat breakfast in the restaurant. The staff was helpful and service was quick. Marco even went so far as to climb a tree to get us a fresh coconut to try. You must take surf lessons from Juan Carlos, he is the instructor that works for the resort. Trust me, it is worth it.

It isn't the Four Seasons, but looks to be comparable to some of the other resorts we saw on the beach. Everything was always clean. The food on the all-inclusive menu was good, not 5-star restaurant quality, but good. If you get the all-inclusive package, you can get food from the regular menu at a discount.

The only complaint was being around one of the owners, who sat at the restaurant bar every night drinking tequila, smoking cigars, pontificating, and talking in an extremely demeaning manor to his staff, who were absolutely fabulous. From the drivers to the bartenders and waitstaff to housekeeping and front desk, the staff (except for the owner) was always there to help, answer questions and make your stay enjoyable

Overall, it was a wonderful getaway and we cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: Go for the "beach-front" rooms. While not actually on the beach (all of the rooms are abo...

We went to Morgan's Cove for a weekend getaway. We found an excellent deal on Expedia, which was 30% less than the 30% discount on the hotel's website. I just checked again and it was for the same room. The front desk staff was very nice. We were met with a strict check-in at 2pm policy...or pay $40 extra. Rooms were available, we were just not allowed to check-in. Keep in mind, we were not on the all-inclusive plan, so there was no extra expense to the hotel. We ended up going elsewhere to eat and drink beach side while waiting. We probably would have eaten and drunk there had we been able to check-in, so it was the hotel's loss.
Our room was at the rear of the hotel, ok because there is a nice pool there with a swim-up bar. However, it was a trek to the beach, especially with a surfboard. The room was a nice size with two beds and an overly large bathroom. Better too big than too small. The room was clean, the A/C worked great and the TV and coffee maker also worked great. Very disappointing was the lack of WiFi in the room. We found out it was only available near the restaurant, quite a distance from our room.
This is a popular resort for weekend getaways with local Tico families and dogs are allowed, so be prepared for kids up early and a lot of lap dogs around. Local customs are to not clean up after your dog, so stay on the paths. They also announce the opening of the pool bar with typical loud music, so naps are a maybe.
With the price we paid, I would stay here again. It was nice for a couple. Any higher rate and I would look for other options.

We stayed at Morgan's Cove with a Living Social deal that couldn't be beat. It was just what my best friend and I were hoping for...long walks on the beach, a short walk into town, a clean pool and an all inclusive. The wait staff worked their tails off to make our stay special, especially Jose and Marco. The drinks and food were delicious but the all inclusive menu could have used a bit more variety. We were there in late August-early September during the low season so we had great service. They had live music on Saturday night but not the other 6 nights. That would've been nice. The only negative thing was the owner. He talked to the wait staff like dogs in front of the guests, which was uncomfortable for many of us. Maybe if he cut back on his tequila at the bar he might be more pleasant. In spite of the owner, we had a great trip. It's not a four or five star resort, but was a great value for the cost.

I will start by saying that we are pretty easy to please. Sunshine, no kids, all-inclusive? Makes us happy, happy, happy. Our room was great. The staff was VERY accommodating and made a BIG deal out of our anniversary. They were helpful in recommending things to try on and off-property. Hubby enjoyed wonderful surfing lessons. This is a 3-3.5 star property, and doesn't claim to be anything else. Very pleasant experience!
