“Comfortable & convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We visited Jaco Beach in March and stayed at Morgan's Cove for one week. I'll start with the "bad," which really isn't all that bad in my books but is the reality of the place. If you're looking for all night clubbing, five star resort accommodations, or gourmet food, you're going to be sorely disappointed. But I personally think if you're looking for that in Costa Rica, you might as well be in any 5 star in the world.

The charm in Morgan's Cove is in the 30 second walk to the beach, or the short walk down the shore to town. I dislike giant resorts with highrise hotels, so the small property and quiet evenings were great for us. If you want nightlife, you can walk to town, but it's peaceful when you want peace and quiet. The food isn't fantastic, but you won't starve. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean, not glamorous. You're central to Jaco and an hour's drive to Manuel Antonio park, which is a must-do day trip. You can go ziplining, boating, fishing, snorkeling, hiking, biking... whatever you want is close by. There are beautiful birds singing when you wake up in the morning and a crocodile hangs out behind the main bar building in the river... it's real Costa Rica.

If you're super picky, you probably won't like Morgan's Cove. But if you want to actually experience Costa Rica and maybe be able to afford to do it more often, this place does the job just fine. We had a great time with the other guests, felt safe walking around even at night, and won't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Get an oceanview room by the pools, closer to the beach.

This is called a resort. Well it is in a beautiful place the is great but. The prices are high for what you get. The air conditioning did not work correctly. Even though they had more rooms they placed on the 2nd floor, the screens were torn the door to the patio and the patio door was difficult to open. They have a casino but 5 machines did not work most were manual pay outs, the air conditioning did not work. There was only one poor girl working in the late afternoon and early evening and was not able to keep up to the complaints. She did however always smile and apologized. We tried to get another room but after 1 hour of trying to change decided to give up get our money back and go to another hotel. The Casino is one to stay away from for sure there are better ones in Jaco

We were at Morgan's Cove this week. The hotel is facility is nice and has many options, but little things are missing. The beds are ok, but not great. The bathrooms were clean, but in poor shape. The staff was friendly but it was obvious they could use a little extra training. The food however was GREAT. No meal was lacking anything.

A few of the unfortunate things were the bars didn't open until 11 am and many of them, such as the pool bar, inexplicably closed early.

The wifi worked, but was spotty.

In general a little bit here and there would make this hotel earn 5 stars, but the numerous little things did add up, however if given the opportunity I would stay there again. The beach was wonderful and the sunset was out of this world. Jaco as a whole is a great place. The people are welcoming and warm. We did talk to the owner (the man with the pony tail who camps out at the bar closest to the beach by the corner smoking a cigar) and he said they are working to improve some of the unfortunate items and i believe him. I look forward to seeing it in the future.

Room Tip: The lower numbered rooms have apparently been more recently updated. If you need wifi try to be as...

The fact that we have been to Morgans cove Four times in the last year and a half...."again" speaks for itself....the booking went very smooth as we booked the hotel with Shannon on our own through email, and booking the flight seperate,as we did not have the option of booking with a tour co.but it worked out very well...we still had the option of all-inclusive,or just the room with daily breakfast.we payed the hotel for a driver (shuttle pickup) from the airport, and he was there as we got out of the airport waiting....this resort is making "many" improvements as in the choice of food on the menu, they have italian nite, bbq nite, seafood nite etc etc....which is very good...we could not understand why others would go off the resort to eat,the food even off the regular menu, can be ordered anytime and is awesome, and also at a discount if lodging there. Some of the rooms are going through renovations which is very nice the new beds are excellent....we should also mention we did visit the sister resort "morgans central" and were amazed how nice it was...nice cabinas with kitchens living area and most renovated there also....if you stay at the cove you can drop into the central for a few coctails free of charge as it is downtown and nice to take a break while shopping. We really cant say enough of the place...it definetly is a hidden gem in paradise...and of course we will be returning.thanks again to the owners, managers and whole staff.
Seee you all soon!!

Room Tip: for us the second floor rooms have balconys which are a little more private.

We arrived on a busy evening following a local 10 k race. The roads were at a standstill with the volume of traffic and in the distance we saw a man directing traffic! It turned out to be the hotel manager who then proceeded to run on front of the bus to assist our arrival !!! Lol
Contrary to many reviews we found staff very helpful, rooms clean and bright if a little tired. Solar powered hot water which was mostly plentiful in a decent shower.
Nice clean pools plenty of sun beds and most of the time there were very few people about.
The setting and grounds are very picturesque with lots of birds, lizards and we were lucky enough to see a crocodile on the river bank opposite the restaurant!
We were on a bed and breakfast basis and found the buffet very pleasant with lots of fresh fruit, eggs and hot buffet plus juice and hot beverages
On the whole it proved a very enjoyable relaxing stay

I spent three nights here, with a group of 25.. great centre for exploring the Jaco area, and to enjoy the Pacific coast. Jaco is a busy, lively little town within easy reach of the lovely parks and rivers.
Rooms are quite adequate and comfortable - one or two levels. Mine was ground floor, overlooking the larger pool. It was a bit dated, but some rooms are more updated. There are three pools, one with a bar pool, one smaller one too near to the kitchen, and a little kiddies pool. Plenty of sunloungers, but no cushions, and very few parasols - it was very hot, and shade was needed. The grounds are well maintained. The bars are not too bad, The restaurant tries, but is not very special. Breakfast choice is reasonable. Lunch and dinner a bit limited, and the service is variable.
The hotel opens out onto the beach, with some sunloungers available. It is open to the public, and there is no security on the beach side of the hotel. there is at the main entrance. It is a pet friendly hotel, which is Ok for locals.

Room Tip: Depends if you want to be near the pools, the bar, or beach.

My husband and I were traveling to Jaco for my birthday to buy a surfboard from the Osa Peninsula thinking it would be a quick day trip. We brought the dog and nothing else. After a rain storm and road work set backs, we didn't arrive until late and were forced to find lodging for the night. This place was the only place willing to take us all in. We have a beautiful show dog quality Aussie by the way who is trained to the max and is amazingly well. We were grateful to have a place at this point to have a room, which was adjacent to a bar. The walkways are slick. I fell and busted my knee and my ankle, the staff was unconcerned. The guy showing us to our room almost fell several times. Shook that one off and was ready to go the room. The food was good and drinks ( I was ready for one ) were delicious. They do turn the water off every night and will not turn it on if you are an early riser before 7 AM. It is not going to win awards for decor but it is decent and everyone was friendly, they are just really cheap and don't give you towels and soap, etc unless you ask. Not going again unless I have a dog.

Room Tip: Something away from the bar. Ocean side, Upstairs.

We are Always glad to Except Mascots we love animals and are animal friendly here at Morgan´s Cove Resort. I have a dog, Pepper and 3 kittens. It is always very important to us if a guest is ill or injured in any way. Many guests will praise our staff for taking them to the clinic or hospital or even arranging doctors to come to the hotel for them when needed. I find it hard to believe if you busted your knee and ankle as stated that you would just get up and shake it off? If you needed any kind of medical attention at all only need to ask. All rooms are cleaned daily, Towels, soaps, shampoos, and conditioners are ALWAYS provided in all our rooms. Only excemption would be for human error of the cleaning girls( again a problem fixed fast with a call to reception) It is an error that we do not except and we would look in to immediately. We also never turn our water off every guest that stayed with us knows that the only issue might of been if the power went out or there was a repair being made to a broken water pipe somewhere. Thank you and doggy treats!
