“Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and we are glad we stayed here. Yes, it is removed from the beach/strip area of Jaco, but that is exactly what we wanted. In our opinion the beaches in Jaco were not as good as the beaches in Tamarindo, so this was perfect for us. The rooms are very nicely furnished, and the deck overlooking the pool/garden area was large and nice. Having the outdoor kitchen was a nice feature. The staff is very accomodating, and friendly. It is quiet and peaceful which is exactly what we wanted. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: We liked having a room on the upstairs level.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time at El Paso de las Lapas. Carlos is so helpful and friendly, he really made the experience that much more amazing. The hotel paid for one return cab trip to and from Jaco each day, and also organized for us to order food from restaurants in town and have it delivered to the hotel (since they don't cook lunch/dinner). Carlos even took it upon himself to drive us to the bus stop in Jaco when we were leaving for our next location, and made sure we got on the right bus. Superb service, stellar rooms, beautiful pool, can't ask for much more than that!

“A welcome change of pace...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

If you're looking for a tourist-trap, beach-bum hotel on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica...this is not your place. It was refreshing to be removed from the busy-ness that accompanies so many resort hotels. El Paso de las Lapas is small, quiet, and secluded--yet with easy access to Jaco and Herradura. The attention and service of the staff were genuinely friendly and appropriately personalized. A thoroughly enjoyable three-night stay for us...our most pleasant experience in a Costa Rican hotel in all the years we've been visiting...

“Great hotel and resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

This was our second year holiday at Porta Ventura and the second time we stayed in El paso. The holiday was fantastic again and the service in the hotel was second to none, we could see the effects of the recession there but it had no impact on our stay. The only snag was the fact that we had 3 adults and 1 child in the room and they only gave us 1 wardrobe, while or friends who had less people in their room got more space for clothes (2 wardrobes) other than that it was again a first class holiday. If you want a holiday with theme parks, water parks and the option of the beach then this is the place for you. The pool is fabulous and I would recommend you go all inclusive as it is so worth it! we do not drink alcohol but the kids and I drink lots of soft drinks and the can be costly through out the day.

Room Tip: Ensure you ask for a quiet room if you are an early bedder as the entertainment can go on quite lat...

“Far from the beach - no restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Beautiful room.

However, please note, the hotel is 4 km from the beach/restaurants/strip.

No restaurant. The hotel offers order-in service from several restaurants, but you pay for the delivery fee, or else you take a taxi to the restaurants - and the hotel pays for the taxi.
We took a taxi to the strip and had a great time, but future vacation-planners should be aware.

The hotel provides a breakfast buffet in the morning, but because they have to bring the food in, it really is not up to par for a hotel charging as much as they do.

So, although the room was nice, if I ever go back to Jaco Beach, I would get a hotel on the beach, not 4 km away.

Your opinion counts, we want to thank you about the comments and we feel sorry you did not know we are not in front of the beach or the strip of Jaco when you booked. We decided to be away of the noisy Jaco and enjoy the nature but close enough to go out and enjoy, that`s one of the reason the hotel have the private shuttle called "taxi", to take our guest wherever they want to go and we pay for it. And try to be different than regular hotel rules, like the schedule for breakfast, and not having a restaurant since the all have their own kitchen, we have some of the best restaurants in the area and order and serve it to our guest wherever they want, the personalized service, but we understand not everyone likes the same. Thank you and best regards!!!
