“A fabulous holiday :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

It's easy to enthuse about a great holiday, and that in itself would be a straight forward task after staying at Del Mar. But. It wouldn't do justice to what Philip and his team have created, so I hope this does. You don't walk into reception and find yourself hit by the clichéd scripts of sanitised corporate hospitality, that simply see money in foreign travellers; you go into the reception and you're greeted with an abundance if calm kindness that glides through every moment you will experience at Del Mar. And those moments are like magic. The property is designed to incorporate the surrounding forests into the open spaces of the restaurant, bar, poolside and guides you out to the beach where sand, warm sunshine and the evening view of an immense sunset will define the happy memories of your holiday. The team has a natural confidence to understand customer service without expectation and without intruding; the result is a beautiful mix of privacy and company throughout your stay. Any question you may have will be answered with informed enthusiasm, and every member of the team is a delight to speak to. Rooms are immaculate, sound proof and fully equipped, including fridges (having stayed in alternative 4 star accommodation in Jaco, this is clearly not the type of attention to detail to which they all adhere, but at Del Mar nothing has been forgotten).

I am a female, travelling alone and felt more comfortable at Del Mar than I sometimes have at home (London).

More than that, the magic of the place suits everyone from single travellers, to couples, families and groups of friends. It's a real experience of Costa Rica and while it may leave you wishing you had more time to stay, when your holiday is over you'll understand what they mean by Pura Vida.

I've stayed at this property twice and would have stayed more if I had know about it sooner. This is a small family owned hotel that feels like home away from home. The owners are very warm and the staff is attentive & helpful. There is a small open air restaurant & bar which serves a great breakfast and the bar is popular with a lot of Americans and Europeans, but in a warm friendly way; not rowdy. There is a small swimming pool situated in grass lawn with stepping stones leading down to the beach which is only about 20 meters away. For a oasis in Jaco this is your place. It's not "downtown" in the all night party scene, but close enough if you get an urge to go mingle for drinks or more.

Room Tip: Get a beach side room but far enough away from the bar to be restful.

What a wonderful condominium complex ... overlooking holes 15/16/ of a great course ...La Iguana. The units we stayed it ( 4 couples ) were great, excellent set up, and with everything you can want - WIFI, entertainment system ... with movies, music Cds, lots of little details and they had a nice welcome snack/soft drink package ... the 2 bedroom units have a master bedroom and the second one is smaller but each has their private bathroom - it was a great morning walk from there every day for breakfast at Hoya 19 ( Hole 19 ); the pools were also wonderful ... and the sunsets from the balcony .... PURA VIDA as they say in Costa Rica ...
I am looking forward to the next visit there ...

Room Tip: All units are furnished differently - so depending on your liking - more traditional or more modern...

Where to start?! ...When will I return is the Question!!...The landscape, staff, plethora of activites, food, and overall ambience make this Extreme Paradise more than worth your money~ Each day I was able to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding beauty, as well as push my limits of endurance with a wide array of amazing activities---My sister and I found ourselves hiking beautiful trails to secret waterfalls, taking pilate& yoga classes amidst the exotic noises of the rainforest...Days later we were taking our VERY first SUP *stand up paddle* board and SURF lessons!! Excited and slightly nervous we aced them! Staff was welcoming, enthusiastic, and made our experience the best yet abroad~ I would and do recommend Del mar Surf Camp & Delmar Extreme toall ages and anyone interested in a fabulous stay!

We stayed in one of the Del Mar Residences a few days after Christmas.

The condo was great, however the shuttle service was inconsistent.
They have a schedule posted in each condo, however the shuttle does not always show up according to schedule. When we spoke to the front desk of the Marriott they told us that "they were not responsible for the service and that they couldn't do anything about it."
When asked who I should contact about this, they replied they didn't know.
We also called the CR Luxury Management office and never got a response.
Poor customer service from both CR Luxury Management AND Marriott.

Although the shuttle service was not a HUGE deal breaker (we could deal with the long walk to the Casino) the fact that the management company tried to double charge us for the stay was the straw that broke the camels back.

About a month after we returned home from vacation we received several emails regarding "non-payment" for our hotel stay. Once we checked our credit card records, we saw that the charge went through without a problem. We contacted the people at CR Luxury Rentals and they said the fixed the problem.

A few weeks later we saw another charge for $100 from Los Suenos. When contacted about this charge they said, "Ah yes, I remember, you didn't return your beach pass."
My question to them was how they could "remember" what they charged us for within 5 seconds when our stay was over 2 months ago.

When we checked out, we made sure to read all the directions that were left in the condo regarding checkout. We returned all materials and keys back to the security guard as directed. I wish I would have taken a photo of all the materials in the packet, as then I would have proof that we returned everything. After giving up the argument about the $100, a few weeks later I received another email regarding non-payment of the hotel stay.

Basically, this place is a scam and they keep trying to double charge us for our stay, even though they have already collected payment.

IF you stay here, make sure to check your credit card statements and make sure to document your checkout, or you will be stuck with unnecessary charges.
