Owners Barbara and Harvey accomodated all of our needs and provided outstanding meals perfectly prepared with fresh fruit, fish, lobster, wonderful sauces, appetizers and incredible deserts (homemade ice cream of many varieties, flan, etc.). The Beach House was quite comfortable, large, open and has beautiful hardwood floors. We particularly enjoyed the free use of kayaks, encountering dolphins every day and enjoying good fishing right outside the lodge. They had snorkel gear available for those who needed it. Jungle hikes were accessible right from the property. The property is well-cared for with many varieties of fruit, flowers and bushes growing (which attract the Blue Morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and toucans). There were so many wonderful sounds from the birds, monkeys and frogs. We had so much fun and think that it is a fantastic place for any age group because of the different levels of adventure available. We look forward to returning with other family members.
Barbara and Harvey are very responsive, prior to arriving, we exchanged many emails with them. Once there, they and their staff consistently went above and beyond to make our eight day visit memorable and fun. It went by too fast!!

Staying at Saladero Lodge gave us a rare experience to live in a thriving rainforest on an uninhabited beach while staying in a beautifully spacious, clean and comfortable home.

On our first day at Saladero, we were greeted by a baby whale swimming with dolphins in the Golfo Dulce in our front yard and scarlett macaws choosing to nest in a tree in the jungle in the back yard. Though we never saw the whale calf again during our week long stay, the sightings of the dolphins, monkeys, toucans and scarlett macaws right on the property became a daily attraction.

Kayaks and snorkels provided by the owners, Harvey and Barb, gave us the opportunity to enjoy other private and secluded beaches along the coastline. The Golfo Dulce is so tranquil and clear in the morning, that you can hop on the air mattress and view fish......no equipment needed. Hiking on the jungle rainforest trail gave us a different view of the contrasting environment surrounding us in this special place.

Harvey and Barb were very hospitable hosts and quickly became good friends. They shared their organic lemons, limes, grapefruits, bananas, oranges with us........basically anything that was ripe at the moment. The local Ticos provided us with fresh fish. Barb's pet chickens provided us with fresh eggs for our breakfast each day. We miss our happy hour get togethers with them (Harvey and Barb....not the chickens!) while watching the beautiful sunsets over the Oso Pennisula.

If you love the great outdoors, this place is for you. One of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica. We'll definately be back next year!

We were one of the first couples to stay at the newly refurbished lodge at Saladero in December. It was better than we expected. We had been to several lodges in Costa Rica in the past, but this place was special. The living quarters are very tropical with new furnishings and very clean. We were able to actually rent the beach house for the week and the owners provided us with a fully equipped kitchen to cook our own meals and use many of the fruits and spices grown on the property. We had farm fresh organic eggs daily and we were able to purchase fresh chickens and fish from the locals. Kayaks were available free of charge and we snorkeled almost every day. The owners went out of their way to make us feel at home. The only thing we disliked was that we were the only guests there and the only interaction we had during our week stay was with the owners and the workers.

This place is like no other. We just got back from our trip and we can't stop daydreaming about our stay at Saladero. As soon as we got there we completely forget about the crazy busy world we came from and let the relaxing vibes completely inundate us.
You can't even begin to imagine what it's like to stay in an environment this alive. The animals, the gardens, tasty fresh fruits and clear blue ocean - there is so much to see, it was a welcome break from the dreary winter we left behind and then came back to......

The food was great - fresh and local in a relaxed atmosphere just steps from the beach. The ceviche is highly recommended.

The rooms are rustic - the place is a ecolodge so don't expect the Waldorf Astoria - but exactly what we wanted as environmetalists. The owners, Barbara and Harvey, and their staff of local "Ticos" and "Ticas" were as friendly as they come in Costa Rica. We've been to CR several times and each time we are so impressed by how nice the people are everywhere you go.
