Good weather certainly enhanced our visit to Laguna Lodge. It takes a rather long boat ride from the dock to get there and when the water in the river is low, even longer, but interesting all the same as you enter the jungle habitat. The covered boat seats about 20 people. Arrival of guests at the lodge is made special by staff handing out rolled, damp wash clothes to wipe away accumulated perspiration from the heat and humidity, and then glasses of refreshing, chilled fruit juice. The grounds are beautifully kept and the vegetation is lush. The cabins are clean and the showers are good, but don't expect luxury. It's all very basic. Of course, there is no air conditioning but we weren't too uncomfortable. The "ceiling fans" are little oscillating fans attached to the wall where it meets the ceiling. The food is plentiful, basic and not very well prepared, but we didn't go there for the food. There are two pools: one for adults and one for families with children. Both are very nice. All in all it's a really neat place to spend a few days if you like that sort of thing or want to experience something different. We saw a fair number of exotic birds, a baby boa right on the steps of the neighboring cabin, lots of lizards, many of which we had not seen before, iguana, and frogs in the Frog Garden. The property also fronts the Caribbean with a nice beach. Something different and enjoyable.
