We were recommended this restaurant from the Guide Association's Headquarters. Apparently, Miss Miriam's was the best restaurant if you wanted a traditional Costa Rica Meal. The restarant is tuked away on the right side of the soccer field when facing the ocean and has 2 tables outside. We first tried to have lunch one day, it was a bit early, 11:30 a.m., a lady was sitting outside talking on her cell phone and very abruptly told us that she only served lunch at noon. We ended up having lunch somewhere else that day.
On the next day we returned, hoping to get a better greeting. Although we were all smiled and upbeat, we barely received a word from the lady, sitting outside chatting on the cell phone.
We ordered our food, managed to get her to talk a bit. The food was very greasy and not good at all. The only taste was the salt and the grease. Although restaurant are expensive all around in Costa Rica in general, this restaurant's price is way to high for the quality and price. When we asked for the bill, a second lady, even more unpleasant than the first one, simply gave us the total verbally which seemed very high for the quality and quantity of the food. We didn’t remember seeing the price on the menu. We asked for a written bill, and we received a piece of paper, one square inch with the total amount written on it....
I always try to be positive but what gets to me is that this is one of the most recommended restaurants in Tortuguero and I don't feel it deserves it. In addition, the restaurant proudly identifies itself as being part of the Association by sharing a portion of their profit with them. In turn the Association gives back to the community by investing in local infrastructures. I wonder how they can do that if they don't keep track of their sales.... Anyway, Pura Vida!
Although more touristy that Miss Mariam, we hate twice at Sunset restaurant and only have good things to say about that experience.
