While it is difficult to find fault with Azania Bungalows, it somehow doesn't quite make it. The bungalows are perfectly pleasant but lack a homey feeling. For example, there are no comfortable places to sit. For that matter, the whole place is lacking in comfortable nooks and crannies. The grounds are lovely and meticulously kept but a little too well groomed and new for a rainforest experience. The pool is small and lovely but lacking in comfortable places to lounge. The restaurant is fine but not outstanding. The breakfast that comes with the overnight stay is very good. The biggest disappointment is the beach. Beware of dangerous currents that truly can be deadly! There are safer and much prettier beaches nearby. The staff is very pleasant but make little effort to make guests feel welcome and at home. The proprietor, Juan Carlos, never speaks unless spoken to and doesn't seem to put any passion into his work. Don't get me wrong; the place is attractive and well run. However, it misses being outstanding. Maybe it's that lack of a personal touch that keeps it from being really special.

We stayed there 3 years ago and enjoyed it. But tried to book a reservation recently and their online form didn't work. Then we called their phone and tried to book and they simply could not hold a reservation despite them having space.

I tried everything to give them our money... 30 minutes on the phone with 2 different people and it was still impossible. I don't understand how anyone can actually book something with them. Maybe everything is walk-up business??

It may be helpful for others who can successfully book with them to tell me how they did it. They wouldn't take my credit card and wanted me to deposit to a local bank. Unfortunately the bank was closed and there was a holiday before our intended date of stay. So I guess their cabinas remain empty?

My fiance and I stayed there for one night in March of 2005. We were not impressed with the rooms. The mosquitio netting smelled as if it had not been washed in a very long time. The bathroom looked and smelled moldy. We originally booked for four nights, but only stayed for one. I guess I was expecting a very secluded bungalow, but the other bungalows were only about 35 ft. apart. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was not for me.

“A true Costa Rican Experience”

OHLA from Canada
When we started out our holiday research by searching the net we found the Azania Thatch roofed Bungalows and fell in love with the pictures, so we called the front desk and booked our stay from Feb. 7-10, 2007......it was not long enough but nither was our 2 week stay in this amazing Country. The bungalows and the gardens were every bit as beautiful as they showed on the website. The staff were all very friendly and accomodating and between the owners shepherd and the security walking the grounds we always felt safe. The food in Costa Rica is amazing and Azania Bungalow chefs did not let us down. The bungalows themselves are very clean, we loved the beautiful bathroom and the deck with a hammock, the pool will always have great memories for our gang of 7. The beach is just across the street and you can rent boogy boards just down the street. If there is a tour you need booked the front desk seemed more than happy to organize it for us.
We thank you for the memories we have made at your beautiful resort and hope to return to your Amazing country again soon. Keep up the great job!

After a lot of research I found Azania Bungalows online and I am so happy we stayed there. The bungalows are fantastic, the service extremely friendly and their tours are fantastic (go to Bocas Del Toro!!! Staying overnight for at least 1 night is best).

Although the breaksfast was fantastic and I recommend just staying for breakfast in the mornings, I would try all the different restaurants in town rather than stay at the hotel for dinner. For the absolute best go to Maxi's in Manzanillo (very close) and order the barbequed fish, caribbean style.

I absolutely loved Costa Rica and a night in Bocas Del Toro in Panama is absolute must, just ask the front desk to take care of it for you.

FYI - the roads are terrible!!! : )
