While it is difficult to find fault with Azania Bungalows, it somehow doesn't quite make it. The bungalows are perfectly pleasant but lack a homey feeling. For example, there are no comfortable places to sit. For that matter, the whole place is lacking in comfortable nooks and crannies. The grounds are lovely and meticulously kept but a little too well groomed and new for a rainforest experience. The pool is small and lovely but lacking in comfortable places to lounge. The restaurant is fine but not outstanding. The breakfast that comes with the overnight stay is very good. The biggest disappointment is the beach. Beware of dangerous currents that truly can be deadly! There are safer and much prettier beaches nearby. The staff is very pleasant but make little effort to make guests feel welcome and at home. The proprietor, Juan Carlos, never speaks unless spoken to and doesn't seem to put any passion into his work. Don't get me wrong; the place is attractive and well run. However, it misses being outstanding. Maybe it's that lack of a personal touch that keeps it from being really special.
