I took the river tour during a recent visit to Costa Rica. I have only tried paddle boarding one other time and the previous result was discouraging. I tried it in the ocean and had trouble staying on the board due to the constant waves. It was so much easier this time in the flat water of the river. After excellent instructions we paddled in a flat section on the mouth of the river. I was able to stand and paddle around very easily. However, I am more comfortable with a kayak so a guide put a seat on my paddleboard and I was able to sit and paddle like it was a kayak. If I wanted to stand and paddle, I could do that as well. I am 63 and had no problems doing this and I saw a 4 year old girl doing it as well. My wife had never paddleboarded and she took the tour and did great. After the river tour, you have the option to try your new found skill in the ocean off the beautiful beach. We had snacks on the beach after our river trip. During this time, the guides told me they also plan on doing river trips on the Sixaola River that separates Costa Rica from Panama. The trip is longer but there is a slow current that makes the paddling easier even though the trip is longer. This was a great way to experience the tropics and the local wildlife. Many thanks to our guides and experts, Greg, Jason, and Dan. It was an experience I will not forget. One recommendation: I would have loved some wine and cheese after the trip sitting on the beach. I know others were happy with more healthy snacks like fruits and protein bars!
