My husband and I stayed at the Coco Loco Lodge for two nights. The grounds and gardens were lovely and the bungalows were nice except the one we stayed in #3 needs the interior walls cleaned and painted. The mold and mildew growing on the walls was unpleasant as well as the finger prints all over. What really concern us was the area it was in. To get to the lodge you have to walk through a two block area that is not safe and we were not warned by the hotel. Our first night we were walking back to the lodge around 9 pm when we were attacked by 3 teenagers only 30 ft from the entrance to the lodge. When we reported the incident to the hotel owner and said we wanted to make a police report, the police would not come out and she didn't seem too concerned. Later we found out that the area is nicknamed "crack alley". I suggest that Coco Loco Lodge post night security at the gate to discourage anymore problems.

I booked a cabin online for our family of 5. I had an online confirmation that a cabin with a kitchen would be reserved for us. To be fair, I didn't request the kitchen but that was what was available and I used that to compare prices etc with other establishments. When we arrived we were shown a cabin to sleep five with an adjoining bathroom but no kitchen. When asked about this, the owner stated that someone the day before had requested a kitchen and she had given them our cabin. When I mentionned that I had a confirmation for a kitchen, the owner mentionned that she was sure we could share the kitchen beside us. When I asked if she would reduce the price, she said that we were already getting a good deal. On two accounts, this is bad management. This is kind of a Jerry Seinfeld moment.....what is a reservation? Kind of odd. This is not a big deal and after our 2 confirmed days we transferred to a very relaxed place at punta uva that was more our style. The place was very clean, the deck was huge complete with fan and hammock and the garden was nice. We didn't stay for the breakfast but we did rent the bikes which was very handy. To avoid the above, stress exactly what you want and what you expect to have on your arrival.

We stayed in the Hotel Coco Loco Lodge in March, and we want to come back as soon as possible. The property is great !!!
The huge garden is well kept and looks so nice with all the different plants and flowers. Our bungalow was very nice and clean with a wonderful view in the garden. They also have bungalows with kitchen. The Coco Loco Lodge is close to town, but you don´t feel that. We liked it very much, beause you have the feeling of Jungle and if you want to go out at night your way home is not so far like to some other Hotels. We also rented bycicles and went to all the nice beaches around Puerto Viejo. We had breakfast on the main porch where you can talk to other guests if you want, or you can enjoy all the birds and plants in this unbelievable atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We can really recommend a stay there.

Great property with spacious and comfortable private bungalows. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we couldn't have been happier with our choice of hotels in the area. Just a note, learn the "side" way to and from town to the property to avoid walking down a "rough", more direct alley.
