“Hidden treasure in Puerto Viejo, CR”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

I spent 4 nights here with my boyfriend. We ran into a few problems like the AC not working properly in suite 2 and had to spend the night in room 10 which was not a suite. Despite the downgrade for one night, the room had operating AC and the next morning the manager had moved us to another suite, room number 1. The manager provided us with two food tickets worth up to $20 USD which is the difference from downgrading for the night. Despite the rough start, the staff was very helpful and attentive to us. The food was great, and we absolutely LOVED suite #1. The room had hot water, operating AC, and ceiling fans and lots of closet space and a flat screen TV, with backyard access to a wonderful pool. I would recommend this place to anyone travelling to Puerto Viejo. PURA VIDA!

Room Tip: If you are going for a suite, I recommend to book suite number 1. Out of the other rooms I stayed i...

Very nice hotel with lots of character. The water pressure was so so, but for the price it was fantastic. The breakfast buffet is really good as well. Free wifi but it was not working for us when we were there and when it was, it was really slow. A good walk from thw town but for the price it was a great location and really huge complaints.

I really appreciated the cleanliness and beautiful rooms that Cariblue has to offer. I wanted my boyfriend to feel the "real" part of Puerto Viejo but still feel comfortable in a clean place that provided A/C. Not only do the rooms start at an amazing price for what you get but as soon as you open your front door or window you are surrounded by lush jungle plants and flowers. One of the best sounds to fall asleep to at night is the tropical rain or waves from the beach (Right across the street) or wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys in the morning! I think my boyfriend appreciated the jungle sounds and was still very comfortable with a clean bed, clean bathroom, TV, A/C and we felt very safe leaving all of our things in the rooms each day. The reservation process was easy. We filled out a form with our credit card information and faxed it over. Stayed 4 nights, ordered drinks at the aqua pool bar, saw sloths, colorful birds and poisonus frogs! Lots of wildlife around the hotel. Yes, there are some insects like spiders and ants that might make it into your room but that's what's fun about being in the jungle. The front desk is helpful, the breakfast is good, pool is in a beautiful location and playa Cocles is across the street! There's also a parking lot for your rental car! I would definitely stay here again or recommend it to my friends and family! It was great. PURA VIDA!

I love the place, good prize and the building was great. I felt like living in nature.
Nice staff, great pool, beach is in front, close to the town.
The room was nice and clean, tv, hot water, no spa, not fitness center.
It was a romantic get away for us. Good value !!

My fiancee and I stayed three nights here during a ten day trip to Costa Rica in June. We had rented a car and arrived late the first night. Our first room left much to be desired as it was on the first floor, did not feel very private and was poorly decorated. On the plus side! The grounds were incredible, with flowers, gardens, an incredible pool... the next day we requested to be moved to one of the second floor bungalow rooms, and it was so much nicer! We had out own small deck with colorful hammock... and the room was much nicer, with high ceilings and nice decor.

The service was great, so was the breakfast buffet, and we really became quite fond of going for morning swims in the pool to start off the day. The bartender Nacho was a very nice guy and made good cocktails. You are a short drive from almost everything in Puerto Viejo here, and the security is good for at night. Short walk across the street to get to the beach... Good value, good service, beautiful property...I would go back for sure!

Room Tip: DEFINITELY get one of the second floor bungalows... the lower level less expensive ones are really n...

We had a good time at the Totem Hotel. You only have to pass the road and you're at the beach where there are big waves for surfing. The town is a 20 minute walk away. The hotel staff was nice and friendly and the food was great.

My friend and I spent two nights at Cariblue, and from the moment we entered the fence we felt it was the right place to enjoy and explore Puerto Viejo and its surroundings. The bungalows are in the middle of a beautiful garden with access to a wonderful swimming pool, although a stunningly beautiful beach is before the hotel main gate. Avery recommendable experience if you want to visit Puerto Viejo, Cahuita and Manzanillo.
