“Jungle Love”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

What a wonderful stay we had at this hotel. We arrived and were greeted and helped by Rosanna (she was awesome!) Our room was the second to last one at the back of the grounds- perfect. The rooms are rustic and yet have all you will need for a stay. Sitting on the front porch, you get to observe the jungle before your eyes; birds, frogs, monkeys and more. If you don't want to feel like you are are staying in the jungle, don't stay here. We are a family of 4 and we had an amazing stay. The hammock to relax in, the pool to swim in, the delicious breakfast and the short walk to the beach. All that you could ask for and more! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We were a group of 23 from Vancouver, Canada. Plus one from Ireland, we stayed for 3 days over Christmas. The service was excellent, as was the food. Accommodations were enchanting and comfortable, The showers in the sunken bathrooms were cool. While the jungle itself entertaining with the sloth and howler monkees, not to mention the vast array of birds. The pool was a refreshing break after the long bike ride. With the nearby full on guided jungle tours, I loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.

In the middle of the Costa Rica jungle, sweating like crazy, our hut has no AC or lights, and zero walls, only mosquito tents to protect us from all the bugs. Monkeys yelling at night in the trees right outside our window, bats pooping all over our backs ( must be good luck right??) lizards running right under our feet, crabs crawling in and out of their holes, bugs making the loudest noise EVER, but on the bright side, who needs the white noise app to sleep when you have the real thing, and more importantly who needs all the other amenities (like AC and TV) when they offer us free WiFi. What an adventure amazing one at that!

Room Tip: Room 2 is close to the entrance and a little noisy at night due to a gravel road people travel next...

My husband and I spent our first three nights of honeymoon at Shawandha Lodge, and it couldn't have been a better introduction to the country.

The bungalows are fairly primitive (with only mosquito netting for windows and warmish water in the shower), but if you want a real rainforest experience without actually camping outdoors, they're absolutely perfect. Word of warning though, don't expect to get any sleep. From the torrential rain to the howling monkeys, it's far from quiet. Nothing a pair of earplugs can't handle :)

The French owner lives on site, and goes out of her way to get to know all her guests. This made the whole experience feel a lot more personal.

The restaurant serves a delicious complimentary breakfast of fresh fruit, juice, toast and eggs, and for dinner, they offer a traditional French menu.

It's a short walk to the beach, which is one of the main highlights of the area, and a much longer walk to the main town. In our opinion, it wasn't worth the trek. If you want to learn a thing or two during your stay, we really enjoyed visiting the Jaguar Reserve Centre and Caribbeans coffee shop (which offers daily cocoa plantation tours).

Stayed here for three nights….the bungalow was perfect accommodation. And could have stayed longer. The beach directly across from the lodge was a little slice of heaven. The most amazing staff - from front desk to cleaning service to restaurant staff. I can't thank all of them enough for taking good care of me to ensure I had most excellent stay. And that I did.

Fantastic experience, lovely staff, and gorgeous location. We drove from San Jose and arrived in this heaven on earth next to gorgeous beaches, chilled out surfer location, very quiet place. Slept into these cute hunts in the middle of the jungle - absolutely perfect. Staff and owner very friendly and sympathetic.

With the immersion in the jungle, the huts provide a piece of paradise. Location, privacy and services are at the top. Between the sound of the ocean and the howler monkeys, the environment is amazing. Staff is friendly with a high professional behavior and cuisine is world class. To recommend to anyone.
