“Great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Carlos and Nacho are two friends running the exotica lodge that will make you feel always welcome in this very clean and comfortable place. Very well located, room cleaned every days. The price is low according to the quality of the services provided by those two spanish guys that are very friendly and always at your disposal for anything you need. Looking forward to come again. Many thx to Carlos and Nacho!

We were 2 couples staying in Exotica lodge and we really enjoyed our time! The place have beautiful rooms and garden. We had our quite and privacy and on the other hand enjoyed the fact it is 1 min walk from the beach and from the center of puerto viejo where we got out at night. We took one room with a kitchen which was fully equiped, and we msde us great mills with the amazing baggettes from the bakery next door ( the smell wake us up). In addition to all, the owners are very nice couple which supply us a lot of information about the area. Enjoy!

This was the third place I stayed and thought it was great for the money. Like just about every place in Costa Rica you can't take the hot water sign seriously, but it was clean and comfortable with a hammock on the front porch plus tv and fridge. I would stay here again.

I have been traveling Costa Rica on an internship with a group of fellow scholars. We stayed at the Exotica Lodge for 2 nights.
Lorenzo was very helpful and gave us plenty of information about restaurants, beaches, etc.
They do have hot water; however, there is no filtration so you cannot drink the water. So we spent a lot of money on bottled water.
The beach right outside is nice, but rocky. The better beaches require a bike ride. We visited Punta Uva, about a 35 minute bike ride.
We had a particularly stressful time when we came back after the first day and our rooms had not been cleaned, towels had not been replaced, and money was missing from my bag.
When I confronted Lorenzo and he phoned the maid, she claimed she had cleaned the rooms and had taken nothing. We had to leave early the next morning to catch the bus, and the matter was never resolved.
Advice: Don't leave anything of value in the room and buy a bulk pack of bottled water.

A superb time with Lorenzo who put us up at the last minute in clean rooms that had everything they need. Guests get free hot coffee and perfectly placed next to a bakery you also are treated to hot croissants for breakfast.

Rooms are very clean, beds are comfortable though some mattresses could do with changing as they have developed bottom sags. Bathrooms are superb with plenty of towels (hurray!), toilet, shower and basin. Hot water system is a little scary with bare wires heating the element but it does the job.

Rooms have fans, TV and fridges and are more than spacious enough for longer stays. Nice high ceiling also keep the rooms nice and cool.

Hammocks are outside and you can never say no to a comfy hammock. Guests have private gated car park which is locked at night, as is the main entrance so it is nice and secure however in 5 minutes you can walk to Puerto Viejo and enjoy the night life there.

All in all a perfect place and in my top three lodge-type accommodations.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same, but make sure you have a fridge if you want one.
