“Happy hour and live music by the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

This oceanside bar and restaurant was our favourite place to stop on our way in or out of town for grocery shopping or organizing tourist activities. It is on the south edge of town at Stanford Beach, and is the only bar in town with free live music every day featuring local talent from 5 to 7 pm (sometimes later). Every day from 4 to 7 pm is 2x1 cocktail happy hour, and bottles of Imperial beer for about $2 each at all times. The serving staff are friendly and laid back, although sometimes you have to track them down to order or pay your bill. They make good guacamole and chips, nachos, and hamburgers to go with the beer and music as the sun goes down over Cahuita National Park to the northwest. We’re glad they survived a government plan to demolish businesses along the Puerto Viejo waterfront, at least for another two years.

“Okay for a drink, but eat somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Primo location for a meal/drink, right on the beach in town. Our dining experience was punctuated by a loose corrugated panel in the roof that banged away at random. The music was too loud to have a conversation (this was lunchtime) and they turned it down for us. They have a pool table for entertainment inside.

I think I'd stick to the drinks. The food was average to below average. We ordered food that wasn't made/delivered and had a tough time getting the check. Enjoy the drinks, view and music.

“Horrible food! Don't eat here. Just drink”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

It clearly has the top spot for a drink in Puerto Viejo and that's pretty much all that's there to say.

BUT: Don't touch the food. The nachos were about the grossest thing ever seen.

They use extremely old oil. You can smell it when you stand near the kitchen.

And forget the fresh fruit juice too!

Just go for bottled beer. That always works!

“Beach Bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Cheap beers and food right on the beach, with outside and inside seating. They have a ping pong table, pool table, foosball table. Great place with friendly people and a wonderful view.

“Good place, particularly on weekends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We went here a couple of times and really liked the weekends as a local group of calypsonians would come here and play some nice calypso. Reasonable price on drinks and food.
