“Nice quiet place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Stayed here one night while transiting through Juan Santamaria International airport. Its nearby, but in a quiet area. The rooms were large and modern. I never turned on a TV during this trip, so I can't comment on that. The hotel staff was courteous and efficient, the room was clean and modern - and quiet. There is a restaurant next to the hotel. My meat looked like a London broil, but it was more tender than that - a gaucho steak or something!

Room Tip: The steakhouse next door was good.

El Rodeo is near the Airport and makes getting away from the traditional chain hotels a must. The restaurant knows how ti serve a phenomenal steak and good Civiche. The rooms are clean and quiet.

Room Tip: Breakfast was included when we were there.

We stayed at the El Rodeo the day before our return flight from San Jose to Toronto having spent a week in a more rustic 'jungle' environment. We loved that the rooms were large, clean and air conditioned - quite restful after the previous few days. Unlike the experience of previous reviewers, however, we found the reception staff not friendly or particularly helpful, and the breakfasts were a buffet and not "made-to-order" (but adequate). The restaurant (steak house) adjacent to the hotel was excellent: we had planked roast chicken for lunch - the best we've had anywhere - and we truly regretted that we were too full from the excellent lunch to have a steak dinner there at night as we had planned to do! Note that this hotel is quite "out of the way" although it's only 15-20 minutes to the Alajuela airport; there is no where to walk to and the street is very busy, so this is a good place for a one-night stop-over only. Longer stays would become quite costly as taxis or car rentals would be required. Note also that there seems to be a lively "night life" and there was a fair bit of noise on a Friday night until quite late.

We spent 2 nights at El Rodeo while coming/going from the airport in San Jose. It is adequate for a quick stop over as we had. Decent rooms, nice grounds, very clean. The breakfast was very good, pancakes, eggs & omelets made to order. There is NOTHING within walking distance, so we were forced to have our dinners at the restaurant on the property. Nice steak house & food was very good, but the menu was somewhat limited. The staff was friendly & tried hard to be helpful, but thier English was almost as limited as our Spanish, so we didn't communicate well. They had no one available to help lug our bags up 2 flights of steps to our 2nd floor rooms. When we asked, the little girl from the front desk came out to help, but the bags probably weighed more than her! Don't take this wrong, I don't mean to give them a bad rap, but this is not in my mind a 4 star property. It is closer to 2.5 -3, Days Inn type. But as I said, very adequate for the purpose we used it for, & overall fairly nice property.

We stayed at El Rodeo for one night on our way back to the states after a cruise. The hotel is in an out of the way location, about 15 minutes from the airport. The hotel has a steak restaurant that we found quite good, but it's the only choice nearby and the neighborhood is mostly commercial with few restaurants.

The room was nice but we paid for a Junior Suite and had no sofa or seating except for a desk chair. I think that calling the room a junior suite was a misrepresentation.

The hotel does not furnish airport transportation so we went to the airport by taxi.

Room Tip: Note that the junior suites are not suites at all.

This hotel feels like another of the hotels you just stay in whilst waiting to catch a flight – which is exactly what we were doing. The rooms are big and well decorated. The hotel felt very empty and a bit eerie but it meant we had the pool table and free Wi-Fi computers all to ourselves! The lady on reception was so friendly and even helped us order a pizza from the local takeaway! I wouldn’t recommend this place for a holiday but it’s perfectly fine for a short stop over.

Located just 10 mins by taxi (cost US$ 10-15) from the airport in a peaceful semi-rural area, the hotel is set in an attractive courtyard with a swimming pool, tennis court and restaurant. The public areas are pleasant and the bedrooms well appointed with quality furnishings and king-size beds in line with its its 4 star status. In spite of these trappngs it is not "stuffy" and has an informal atmosphere, helped by the friendly and helpful staff. Service was excellent throughout - the hotel computer was down when we arrived but without any prompting from me reception called to let me know when it had been fixed. On top of all this the Argentinian steak house was excellent and served up the best steak I'd eaten for years! Overall a great place to stay before the early morning flight back home and a bargain at US$ 88 + tax per night B&B.

Room Tip: I bet they're all great!
