After two weeks on the Caribbean coast (Puerto Viejo), my girlfriend and I came across James' s Casa Holanda through a recommendation.
We stayed with James for three full days and two nights at the end of August (2007) and had an amazing time. The house is clean, bug-free and beautifully decorated. We chose to stay in the 'Tickled Purple Room', but any of the guest rooms are gorgeous; the 'Honeymoon Suite' has a private balcony and jacuzzi.
James runs his own tours throughout the central valley. We were picked up from out Interbus drop-off and went to explore InBio park. After, James took us for a great tico lunch and then arranged a meal at the nearby Peruvian 'Inca Grill'.
The next morning, we awoke to a delightful assortment of fresh fruit, home-made breads, coffee and poached eggs (our request). Then, we packed up and James took us on a day-tour to Volcan Poas and the La Paz Waterfalls. It was so nice to be in a private vehicle with the ability to stop wherever we wanted. Dinner that evening was at Casa Holanda, where James made pejibaye soup with fresh french bread, avacado and papaya juice. Dessert was homemade chocolate ice cream, strawberries and a little cafe liquor.
On our final day, James took us to the local central market for a corn & cheese tortilla breakfast and then to the open-air market. As a bonus, we went to Cafe Britt (for some souvenirs).
James is fun, knowledgeable and caring; Casa Holanda is the best place I've stayed at in the central valley.
