“Who'd ever expect chalets in San Jose?”

We recently spent the last two nights of a 15 day trip to Costa Rica at the Hotel Chalet Tirol. What a wonderful end to our trip. The hotel is unique in it's design...you wouldn't dream you were in Costa Rica. The chalets were charming, the grounds beautifully landscaped, the staff so very eager to please, and the food was terrific. Being up in the cloud forest was outstanding...there were many trails for exploring the beauty of the area. It's my understanding that there is an annual music festival in the summer at the hotel and I imagine it would be fun to be there then. Being located outside of the crowded, noisy San Jose was a plus...although you were only a short drive away if you wanted to visit the city. I would strongly recommend a stay at the Hotel Chalet Tirol to anyone travelling around the San Jose area .

Were we at the same place as the previous poster? We thought this place was great. A beautiful location in the cloud forest with cool mountain air,gorgeous flowers, cute alpine chalets. Food was above average, and the Scottish pub Green Dragon was fun. We had a mid day flight out of San Jose and prefered to stay here rather than closer to the airport.

One word of warning--Costa Rica is too beautiful and there is so much to see and do. Don't spend any of your precious time at Hotel Chalet Tirol-- This hotel has a very strange feel to it--the food is mediocre, the rooms are moldy and dark and in disrepair. There is absolute nothing to do and nothing to see. We could not get out of there fast enough.
