This was our first stay on our novice visit to CR from flying in to San Jose. Our flight was a disaster, our rental car rep never showed up, we were stranded at the airport and our luggage was lost (at least for that day). When we finally got it straightened out and got in our car and drove up a rutted road to the hotel, we had diminished expectations of what we might find. But when the gates opened, I have t tell you, it was like Alice in Wonderland.
The gardens are unbelievable and natural, and the staff was very welcoming to a weary family who had spent many hours at the San Jose airport looking for suitcases and an absent rental car. The rooms are very creative and I take exception to a reviewer who said they are run-down-unless he means sterile sheet rocked boxes-by no standards were they run down and they were fastidiously clean. Add their environmentally conscious recycling and using their organic gardens to supply the restaurant and you have an incredible hotel experience-hard to quibble with. Are there any downsides-yes, the rooms are pricey-but in this case worth the beauty. Is the restaurant expensive-yes-but the food was perhaps the best we had on our trip. Someone said the 4 course meals had small servings on a previous review-well, I have a healthy appetite but I was stuffed at the finish- do we need to pig out at dinner? I was completely satisfied and I can't imagine wanting more portions and it was delightful, and we felt no need to leave the grounds.
Now, we were only there for two days at the beginning of our trip and it rained almost non-stop for the entire time, so we were kind of stuck at the hotel as well as waiting for our bags which did show up the next day, assisted by the great front desk clerk. There are no TVs or amenities like that and we couldn't use the pool in the rain,, so we got a little stir crazy-but we were tired from our long previous day flight nightmare and needed to decompress. My daughter got a little restless and the internet service was spotty-the computers were old and hard to use-don't come here if you re looking for that. We walked around, even in the rain and marveled at the lush gardens. We received a tour of the organic coffee plantation by a friendly, marvelous guide. We saw the dancing horse! The stables were immaculate.
The staff was eager to please and helpful, and the grounds were a marvel. While expensive by CR standards, we went on to discover other hotels that we paid for in advance that we could not spend one night in-so spend the extra $$ and enjoy one of the nicest places that we, as a family, plan to return to!
Was it pricey? Yes-but that is a relative term. Priceyness by CR standards-yes. If this were anywhere else, it would cost quadruple. And remember, in CR you get what you pay for and when we tried cheap hotels elsewhere, it was a disaster. So plan a trip to start off here and enjoy.

“Go green, be happy”

Finca Rosa Blanca Country Inn

Traveling with six people, two of whom are teenager girls, is not always easy, but Finca Rosa Blanca made six different personalities extremely happy. The inn allowed us to order in pizzas the night we arrived, they set up a private dining area for us, provided all needed items and did not ask for a thing in return. The property does not allow meals in the rooms as they are a pesticide free property, but this is not a problem. The breakfasts offered feature both native fare and "American" fare, and are not to be missed. The dinner menu has both vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices; all are wonderful. I asked for just soup and salad at one meal while the rest of our party enjoyed all courses; the staff could not have been more accomodating to each request. In addition, they have a nice wine list. This inn keeps the eco-friendly spirit alive in both regards. The horse stables, pool, coffee planataion, etc. are all well run and very enjoyable. The staff, especially Barbara, is excellent. The inn is situated far enough from San Jose so that you are not overcome by the city, and positioned so that trips to the Poas Volcano and water gardens are easily accesible. This truely is a property which will delight any member of your group and provide a wonderful taste of Costa Rican hospitatlity and beauty.

My husband and I stayed at Finca Rosa Blanca to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We stayed in El Ranchito suite. It was absolutely wonderful. Beautiful grounds and trails to walk on. Our room was so enchanting-true Costa Rican style. Fresh paradise flowers in our room and in our bathroom each day. Our bathroom was outside surrounded by foliage with jacuzzi tub and large shower. Electric blanket on the bed helped ease off any dampness (we were there during green season). Everyone was very friendly and helfpul at the inn. My husband left a bag in the taxi that brought us to the inn and it had his medication in it. They helped us by calling the taxi company and we landed up retrieving the bag. Food was excellent-we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner. I would recommend this to anyone-a great way to start or end a trip in Costa Rica if you are coming in and out of San Jose Airport.

We were staying here only one night on our way over to the Caribbean side and got lost for 3 hours driving around trying to find the hotel which caused us to almost give up...but so glad we didn't!! The breakfast alone was enough reason to stay here even for one night. The front desk was very helpful when we were lost and once we got there immediately sent us to dinner (we had missed the last seating at 8pm) which was wonderful, with great wine choices. The hotel is so unique and beautiful, and our room had such a great view over San Jose, at night and during the day it was a sight. The room was clean and lovely with interesting and stylish decor, the bed was very comfortable, and the jacuzzi tub was a blessing after all that driving around. The breakfast in the morning was the best I've had in a long time with delicious coffee, a fruit plate, and a choice from the menu (try the french toast with blackberry or coconut syrup... YUM!!). The staff was attentive and helpful. We would definitely stay there again, for a few more days next time...

Finca Rosa Blanca Country Inn is far from every where and at the end of a long bumpy road. If you stay there for more than a day you will soon become tired of driving on the rough Costa Rican back roads. You will have a long one or two hour drive from the Inn to any site of interest.

The rooms are nice but expensive. The menu is limited. Dinner costs $35 per person. The servings are very small, the taste is very ordinary, and cooking takes a long time. We stayed for 6 days. Our first dinner took one hour and our second and last dinner required two hours. In summary the Inn would be an interesting place to visit for coffe or tea but not to stay.- Urban Mullen
