In truth, I have not stayed at Flores recently. I just put some friends up there and I eat at the soda (small restaurant) a couple times a month. I did stay there regularly for many years, before I moved to Costa Rica.

This is a true budget gem. It is clean, safe, friendly, comfortable, and conveniently located. Heredia is a much easier city to navigate than San José and you can walk from the hotel to the central park. It is not a fancy tourist hotel - no jacuzzi, cocktail lounge or elevator.

The 28 rooms are basic, but clean and pleasant. The second story doubles have a nice view of the city at night. All have private baths with hot water and televisions. It is run by a family that lives on the premises and they are very friendly and helpful.

The eldest daughter runs a small restaurant (soda) off the lobby, mostly just breakfast and dinner. She can also help set up tours or get transportation for travelers. Don't miss her empanadas stuffed with either cheese or beans. She will bring food up to your room if you like. If you have an early departure, you can set up breakfast and taxi with her the day before.

Additional services include secure parking inside the electric gate; WiFi in the soda; a computer in the soda that can be used for a small fee; wash can be arranged; directions and explanations of all things Costa Rican.

I would (and do) recommend this hotel for anybody traveling to Costa Rica who does not need to be pampered in a Gringo-fancy tourist hotel.

This hotel is anything but fancy...it is more like a motel. But the price is right considering the private, gated parking lot included and the location, which is very close to the center of Heredia. It feels very secure and safe. I recommend this hotel for someone wanting to stay in Heredia town or looking for a cheap option. It is not as close to the airport as many other hotels, but it is still no more than 20 minutes away.
