I went to Costa Rica as a single traveler from 9/10/09-09/17/09.
I had planned to sit by the pool and read all week. Well that worked for about 2 days. Then the temptation to explore was overwhelming. There is so much to do in this country. I used Diego Sandi as my tour guide. He was awesome. I highly recommend him, [--]. His car was very comfortable and he supplied refreshments. We went on a river tour and saw so much wildlife and afterward had a wonderful lunch. The next day we went deep sea fishing with North pacific tours. There contact Lisa met us right on the beach and explained everything. The captain, Daniel and 1st mate,Danny were so nice. It was like fishing with old friends. I caught my first Rooster fish and also some tuna. We went for just half a day and it was very reasonable.
The next day we went to Hotel Borinquen. This place is a must visit. We hiked thru the forest and saw beautiful waterfalls and wildlife. The guides were a so professional. I took the zipline down the mtn. I was so scared, but they made me feel so safe. Afterward we were treated to a gourmet lunch. Then there was the volcanic mud baths and amazing swimming pool. I could have spent a couple of days at this place. The last day we went exploring the beaches, small towns and rental houses. I can't wait to go back and highly recommend using a guide.

We had a wonderful time with our family at Playas Tamarindo and Langosta this summer! We stayed at Villas Langosta next to Hotel Barcelo, and never got tired of spending time on the beach!

We spent a lot of time beach combing, looking in tide pools, swimming in the estuary, and walking around.

Tamarindo beach is great for surfing and sunning, and very large. Even with many people there, it doesn't feel crowded.

The restaurants are not so great, but I have learned not to expect much from restaurants in touristy areas, so we mainly prepared our own food.

It's a small little Tico town but very enjoyable, especially for surfers. I went to study at the CSI school there and enjoyed the monkeys in the trees, the friendliness of the locals and expats and the closeness of the ocean. The nightlife is fun too. I like the guaro.

Our family of four, plus 2 friends for the kids, rented a condo in Playa Langosta, just a few miles south of Tamarindo. We spent most of our time surfing and eating.
There were so many activities to chose from. We had rented a car for the trip and were able to explore past Tamarindo, but seldom did so.

The restaurants were reasonably priced and the service was always pretty good. The teenagers enjoyed trying a few new dishes.

We did do a horseback riding tour where we rode on the beach.
We also went deep sea fishing, caught dinner for one night. Took surfing lessons.

Everyone was very friendly. Most importantly, we were never ever bored.
