My best girlfriend and I visited Tamarindo in 2005 and went on the snorkeling tour with Blue Dolphin Tours. I really can't say enough good things about this tour and company. The staff blends professionalism with the laid-back pura vida lifestyle that one wants when in Costa Rica. The boat was gorgeous and there are nets for sunbathing on the front. The snorkeling was fantastic, and all the gear was included in the cost of the trip. After snorkeling, there was an open bar with wine, cocktails, etc. and snacks. The crew was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The sunset was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I took a picture of it and visitors to my house always say they wish they could insert themselves into that scene. My boyfriend and I are heading back to Costa Rica in March and this was the first excursion I booked!

We went on a half day trip February 2007. It was the highlight of my first trip to Tamarindo. We are going back February 2008 with a big group and I can't wait to take another Blue Dolphin tour! The staff is friendly and helpful. The service was great!

What a great time! My husband and I scheduled the sunset cruise and loved it. The crew provided snacks and drinks for everybody, and the view while on the boat is worth the cost. They took us along the coast (saw a sea turtle), and then anchored in a cove for everybody to snorkel, kayak, and swim. Most people swam to the deserted beach and played in the sand rather than snorkel. The crew will set you up with all the snorkel gear you need, and show you how to kayak. If you get motion sick, I suggest you take Dramamine before going. It's not rough water by any means, but it's a slow back-and-forth motion that will make you sick if you're prone to that.

Jump on a dinghy on shore to a big catamaran steered by 'El Capitan' Charlie and deckhand Carlos. What a smooth ride. What an awesome time. My girlfriend and I enjoyed this a lot. We got to relax, stare out into the sun, ocean, countryside. Plenty of food not as much as beer and liquor but who's counting. Great tunes, Charlie has an iPod hooked up to speakers around the catamaran. We were jamming Marley and Jack Johnson. We got to an isolated area where we did scuba for a while (they even have kayaks you can use). Carlos went underwater and grabbed a puffer fish and showed it to us underwater. My girlfriend was spooked. We then had the luck to spot two turtles mating and kept seeing more on the way back to shore as we watched the sunset. As we were reeling in the trolling lines (yes they also have some lines for fishing) I happened to have the rod with a baby barracuda at the end of the line. Charlie thanks for the good times PURA VIDA! Carlos thanks for all the insight on your country. Do this if you have a couple of days in Tamarindo, trust me you will thank me later.

My friend and I were down in Tamarindo for a week and we fit a lot in while we were there: kayaking, golfing, surfing lessons, etc. Everything was fun, but the sailing on the Blue Dolphin II was the best part of the whole week. The captain and crew took care of everything: they kept us informed about what we'd be doing/where we'd be going, served apps and drinks non-stop, set us up with snorkeling gear and kayaks and just made a constant effort to make sure we were having fun. There were a bunch of other people on the boat who we got to know and everyone talked about where to go/places to eat, etc., so it was a cool way to meet some people and get thier take on Tamarindo. The sailing was really calm and easy, the trampolines up in the bow were comfortable, the tunes kept playing the whole time - what a great day. I highly recommend it!
