4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Stayed for a week.
Place has it pros and cons, depending on what you are looking for.

It is secluded from the commotion of the center of tamarindo, though the rooms facing the street side still get the road noise from the cars going into/out of tamarindo.

The rooms facing the beach are great. #12 our favorite due to the decor (our friends stayed there) but the balcony does not have the view of the water like #11 does, where we stayed. #11 is a bit more used up, and the decor is not as modern as #12, but the view is right in front of the water (though the water is a good 1/4 mile away +/-).

The room sits right above the bakery's seating area, but we did not have any noise problems like some of the other reviews say. Keep in mind that the bar was not open so at night the seating area was empty like a ghost town (which was a good thing).

The room itself is comfortable yet basic. Could use some more beach decor on the walls here and there to make it more cozy, maybe a paint scheme of some sort. It just felt very plain, but the view made up for it.

The bathroom had some broken tiles on the floor, but all else was fine. The shower was ample and water pressure sufficient. The hot water took a little while to figure out but once figured, it could get really hot if needed. We took mostly cool showers anyways.

Water in tamarindo appears to be well controlled and had no issues with getting sick.
Room had a little refrigerator and a coffee maker.

The cleaning staff was very friendly and very thorough, leaving the place impecable each time.
The towels are quite old, but it happens to be that is how my wife likes them as she says they dry the best that way.

The AC was sufficiently cold and we had it on minimum at 25C during the night. we also had the ceiling fan running. We could not leave the balcony door open because there are no screens, so insects would get in. Also, at around 4-5, you can smell the bakery goods being baked, but one early morning they were burning trash and the wind was blowing the smoke towards our balcony, so that morning I kept the door closed and had no bakery smells :-(

Staff is very friendly and very accommodating. The place is family owned. Has parking outside. Walk right to the beach from the back. Secluded on the sides. Excellent breakfast. We did not try the lunch menu because we were always out, but by the looks of it, it looked just as good as the pastries.

Overall great value, quiet (bar was not running), and clean. Friendly staff.

This place is a quiet nook close enough to walk everywhere. For travellers that want to have peace and quite to rest after a day of surfing, kayaking, etc this is it.

I stayed in the apartment and it was clean and spacious!

There back terrace face this beach and I spent many nights up talking with friends enjoying the beautiful weather .

There is a french boulangerie on site that makes divine pastries and baguette.

Room Tip: I saw all the rooms and they are all great. The apartments have more space of course

Our first visit to Costa Rica and our first 3 days at Hotel La Laguna del cocodrilo were great !! Clean and convenient to get to the beach or to town. 100 meters to the beach. Safe and the staff was the best. Would recommend highly.

We stayed here as a package with Witch's Rock surf camp because the camp was full for the second week of our stay. Cocodrilo is a 3 minute walk from Witche's and is actually the closest hotel to the river mouth surf break. It's a peaceful little place. We were in room 11 which was very nice but a few changes would make the room great. It had an awesome deck with a great ocean view. This is the best thing about room 11. The problems were that we had no hot water the whole week, the mattresses were not firm enough, it would have been nice to have a dresser so we didn't have to live out of our bags on the ground, and the tv was fuzzy because the cable from the wall was frayed. These are all such easy things to correct and I really hope they do because I would stay in room 11 for my return trips if they could make these fixes. The property also has a great little French bakery.

We stayed at this hotel with hopes that the reviews posted had some truth to them. It was recommended on Lonely Planet as well. I have never encountered such rude customer service. Our sheets had little hairs and brown spots on them. Our air conditioner was leaking all over the floor. It clearly is not hooked up properly as their was mild surrounding the air conditioner. The tv turned on, but was completely fuzzy and you could not make out anything. The wifi does NOT work in the rooms as advertised. They have a common area to use the wifi, which is kept pitch black at night with one lamp and hundreds of bugs. They have a security guard who works from 11 onwards. Don't be fooled. He sat at the desk with earphones in on Skype the entire time, oblivious to all around him. When we brought these issues to the attention of the owners he proceeded to tell us we would not be able to check out one night early and that we would have to pay for the additional nights, 100%, despite telling him of all our issues. He told we should gotten security to change our sheets, and because the tv turned ON, it was good enough. No comment was given on the air conditioner. Save your cash and stay somewhere closer to the beach. You will find much nicer places in the same price range with commendable

I have stayed here a couple of times on various visits to Costa Rica. I love surfing at Tamarindo and this hotel is the perfect location. Mickael and Cedric are fantastic - I always feel very welcome here, they are very accomodating, and what could be better than having a little French bakery on one side, plus the best smoothie place in town on the other?! The rooms are basic, exceptionally clean and tidy, comfortable (I love the ones that face the beach) and I felt secure as a woman traveling alone. Also, not being in the town center, it was quiet in the evenings, which I prefer. Enjoyed my stay very much.

I loved staying here with a super nice ground level room, very quite and relaxing after the days of surfing the local surf spots. I will definitly come back again for another week stay next year. All of the people working here are fantastic and helpful. The French Bakery on the front of the hotel is out of this world greatness, everything a person could want from drinks pizza pasteries so good.
