We booked the junior suite which was the most expensive room and on the top floor. It was large room and clean and the balcony had good views of the beach, but it was pretty tired and the bed was quite sunken and the lock on the door not great. In the mornings for breakfast, we could never work out whether we were supposed to wait for service or go and order ourself from the bakery. I think only once did someone come to the table to take an order and that was because they had obviously just brought food to another table.
The food in the French bakery is lovely and we ate in the restaurant once which was also good. I get the impression the business is more based around the restaurant and bakery and the rooms are just a sideline, so it was fine for a couple of nights and probably good for backpackers as the rooms are reasonable.
NB, we had thought the fact the hotel was next to a pool of crocodiles was a good chance of seeing a bit of wildlife but the pool dried up a couple of years ago, so no crocs. Don't expect that would bother most people though

We spent our first two nights in Tamarindo at this hotel. We thought it would be amazing since it was right on the beach. Turns out, the bed was uncomfortable, the A/C was dripping water on the floor (granted, they fixed it after the first night) and the lock on the bedroom door wouldn't work. The first day when we went out to eat breakfast, we sat and waited maybe 15-20 minutes and the waitress didn't even come out to ask how we were!

The Laguna del Cocodrilo is a nice, small hotel, incredibly quiet, ideally located at the entrance in Tamarindo, you can hardly believe that you are actually staying in one of the busyest playas in Costa Rica. We had one of the junior suites and it was great. We had a big terasse, we could lie in the bed and still see the ocean, extremely relaxing. The French bakery and the restaurant in the hotel add even more value to it. The ocean is just a short walk away, perfect location.

We booked nine months ago to avoid problems and after a long flight from Canada, the owner had lost our reservation. He put us up in a non view room on the busy road. The room was basic at least and noisy as [--]. Having no space he recommended we go to a hotel down the street which was an absolute dump. He knocked $10 off the room rate and it cosy us a lot to find a decent place at short notice. A horrible beginning to a great vacation. His response to his error was pitiful and I would NOT recommend staying here as he admitted he had lost reservations in the past.
