Words cannot describe Los Altos. This is a 5 star hidden gem. From the moment we were picked up at the airport to the moment we were dropped off, the service was outstanding. Not only were we waited on hand and foot, the staff booked day trips and provided any information we needed on things to do.

The hotel (more of a B&B feel) was over the top in quality and cleanliness. The bed sheets are a higher thread count and all rooms have AC. The hotel has only 5 rooms, all of which over look the pool and an insane view of the rain forests and ocean.

In the cost of the room, breakfast and lunch are included. The kitchen staff are locals, so the food is not only regional, but the type of cooking you would expect from your grandmother. Water, soda, beer, and wine are unlimited (and trust me, you barely finish one drink before they bring you another).

Their spa is the best I have EVER experienced, and trust me, I have been to a lot of spas. It is an open air spa (private of course) over looking the rain forest and ocean. There is also a work out center, yoga studio, and 3K walking trail on the property.

The one thing with Los Altos, as with all of Costa Rica, is the roads. Be prepared for the bumpiest ride of your life. Not to mention the cats, dogs, cattle, sheep, monkeys, toucans, frogs, lizards, and other wild life that you will see (sometimes just sitting in the road looking at you) on your ride up to Los Altos.

It was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica! The personal service and food were exceptional !!!!! You must do the sunset couples massage and dinner at least one night of your stay. We loved the rooms.. the smoothies... the views... I would go back today if I could :)

My new wife and I stayed at Los Altos de Eros the week of the 9th 2008 and we loved every minute of it! We wanted try to soak in as much of the culture and country of Costa Rica as we could in 12 days so we spilt the time up between a large beach front resort and Los Altos. Although we enjoyed our stay at the resort, upon arriving at Los Altos, we decided that we should have spent all of our time there. The staff are some of the nicest people we have ever met, the setting is absolutely breath taking and the hotel itself is indescribable. The spa is fantastic.

Perhaps one of the most overlooked attributes of the hotel is the availability of a staff that genuinely wants the guests to have the best time of their life and they will do almost anything to ensure that happens. Leo, Ari and Luse anticipate the needs of the guests and take pride in the opportunity to provide complete stangers an experince they will remember. During one of the many late night parties/conversations with Calvin and the other guests, we concluded that being a guest at Los Altos is like staying at a friends house; it is very comfortable, intimate and everyone in the place loves life. This is the only place I have stayed that I looked for an excuse to come back as soon as possible.

As a feable attempt to summarize Los Altos, the hotel is very simple, immaculate and well done and for those who want to get away from the gimmicks of resorts and have something that is refined and intimate, there is no better place on earth than Los Altos.

Stephanie and I thank everyone at Los Altos for giving so much generosity, hospitality and friendship. Please know that we will always remember your smiling faces and wonderful country.

We stayed at Los Altos de Eros for our honeymoon and overall had a very nice relaxing time. I'll just highlight a few impressions and suggestions that we would have liked to know, as the other reviews have already commented on the excellent service of this resort.

Rooms- we stayed in a king-size room with a "private patio." The patio is not actually private, which was disappointing to us since we had planned to make use of it. Compared to the Eros Suite, the king size room is tiny, but clean and adequate. For $100 more a night you get 3 times more space, a tub, television and a private balcony. When I saw how much more space and privacy another couple had, we felt the price we were paying for the king room was too high. There should be more of a difference. I caught a glimpse of the queen room, which looked more like a full-size bed. I can't imagine two people staying there comfortably.
This is a tropical location, so the room did have a musty smell. The king size bed is really 2-twins put together and the mattress is very firm. There is air-conditioning, which the staff turns on for you with their turn down service. There is not a lot of space for clothes, but the staff will do your laundry every day, so in hind sight I would have packed lighter.

Bathrooms- The outdoor shower was fun, but one night it was a bit cold and there were a lot of bugs and frogs sharing the shower. It would be nice to have an indoor shower option. The toiletries are decent, but are not luxurious at all- very runny.

Bugs- there are many of them, including mosquitoes.

Meals- The first few days we were very impressed with the food. However, we soon started to skip the exact same salad and salad dressing served every day. Every dessert came with vanilla ice cream, which was nice, but after a few days, you don't want to see it. We were served 1 dish twice in our 7-day stay. One day, we were served cannelloni made with Prego. It was good, but not what I expected to be eating at a luxury resort. I would say the same about the “bocas” or meals they serve when dinner is not included. For $30/person, I was expecting a lot more.

Other guests- We really lucked out the first part of our stay. There were 2 other American couples in our age range. Meals with them were fun and made bearing the mosquitoes and bats at night a lot easier. We stayed up with them a few nights comparing traveling notes, and sharing our best adventure stories. Near the end of our trip, a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary arrived. They were nice, but eager to socialize, and we just wanted to relax. The woman talked a lot about her kids, which may or may not be of interest to others. Other guests are a toss-up. I could see this place being super fun with a group of friends. It can be tough to keep to yourself here, so I would not recommend coming here if you wish to do just that.

Spa- Highly recommended is the couple's sunset massage and dinner in the spa. Around 4:00 p.m., the therapists come get you to your room and start with the massages in the couple's room. After the massages, the therapists leave and you have the spa to yourselves. The concierge staff had already brought strawberries or other fruits and champagne by the hot tub. You have about an hour and a half before dinner is brought down. The dinner served in the spa is phenomenal. We did this twice, so we got to try a watermelon and feta cheese salad and an eggplant feta stack- both amazing! The main course is a choice of seared or blacked tuna, grilled mahi mahi, beef tenderloin, or shrimp and pasta. We tried all but the shrimp- all fantastic. For dessert-I don't recommend the chocolate mousse they usually serve here, but you can request something else. The tiramisu is pretty good. A note about the massages- they are all above average, but make sure to speak up if the pressure is not right for you. We tried the deep tissue and wish we would have done this earlier in our stay. We had it 3 days before we left and we were still sore a week later. It is an intense, and painful treatment. We weren't sure about tipping, but later found out that you can add tips for the spa when you check out, so tipping the therapists is not necessary at the end of your treatment. Prices are comparable to what you’d expect to pay in New York City, which seems excessive for Costa Rica, especially when you look at cost of living in the area. We would have probably used the spa more if the prices were more reasonable.

We've heard many great things about Costa Rica and decided to make this our honeymoon destination! After leaving, we've decided to make this an annual vacation.

Los Altos - words can't describe how much we loved this place. Our honeymoon included traveling about Costa Rica with Los Altos as the first stop. Our only regret is not staying here for the duration of our honeymoon. No other resort here compares to Los Altos - we had an amazing time.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are very well maintained (even with the very dry conditions during the dry season in Costa Rica). The resort feels like a luxurious, private home. Everything from the furniture to the decorative accents were stunning, comfortable and created a very relaxing environment. The rooms were extremely clean and I fell in love with the outdoor shower. The treated, filtered water was definitely a plus given the water conditions in the country. Loved the morning walk and yoga.

Service- Unbelievable. We were treated like royalty. Each time we left the room, one of the staff was there to ensure it was clean and tidy. The staff was wonderful and so accommodating. We LOVE Ari and Luth. They made us feel like family! After having a terrible experience at another resort in Costa Rica, we were welcomed "home" with open arms!

Food – some of the freshest and tastiest seafood we’ve ever had. The desserts – amazing!!!

We loved it here and we’re planning to return next year. We will never stay at any other resort in Costa Rica besides Los Altos. What an amazing experience.
