The Hotel Zullymar is a great deal if you’re looking for a no frills Costa Rican Beach town experience. The Hotel staff is pleasant but most only speak minimal English. The grounds are clean, and decorated with many palm trees; the pool is centrally located to all of the rooms. Some rooms have screen doors directly to the pool. The actual rooms are bare, beds are lumpy and the only bedding is a sheet. The hotel offers some rooms with AC. For as minimalistic as this hotel is, they do have one very unique aspect; Each Room door is decorated by ornately hand carved wood, made to resemble a different mural of Costa Rican Indian folklore. The workmanship is absolutely beautiful. .
The hotel is located almost at the end of the strip, close to the roundabout at the end of town. It is across the street from the beach, which give it easy access to breath taking Sunsets. Tamarindo seems to be a pretty safe place, I had no worries walking around by myself at night as a single female, a few cat calls here and there..(nothing much different than what you find in the States) The Hotel Zullymar has a security system that consists of a dog and a Man who stand guard all night long.. (don’t get false sense of security with the Dog--- I never saw it once get up from its cozy spot on the ground!!) The Town of Tamarindo is pretty small, but it is known in the area as one of the best places to come party and dance Salsa with local surfers and tourists. ** For the girls out there, there is a ladies night EVERY night of the week at one of the happening bars. But don’t arrive to early.. places don’t start to get busy until at least midnight.
