My girlfriend and I recently stayed for a week in Tamarindo. One complaint...wish we would've found Arco Iris sooner. Despite the continued construction, I would definitely recommend staying here...an absolute bargain for what it includes.
Richard and his new manager are very friendly and helpful (both speak English).
The bungalow-style living is WONDERFUL. The bathrooms are redone and very nice. The beds are very comfortable (something I found a rarity in Costa Rica), and the lighting and bamboo ceilings really add to the experience. The rooms also have cable television, a refrigerator and a very nice covered porch with a small wood table and chairs. Our bungalow just happened to come with an adorable cat we named Tina (aka "Patty" short for "Chatty Patty"). She is quite the talker and incredibly friendly and loyal (I am a veterinarian so I really enjoyed the added companionship). If you happen to see her, grab some cat food from the grocery store for her.
One might be disappointed in the location, but I found it incredibly relaxing and very close to everything seeing how the road that it lies on bisects the busiest part of town. There are also two convenient located grocery stores in the close proximity as well as a number of good restaurants.
I will, no doubt, be back and if I have not yet purchased a place of my own in Tamarindo, I will be staying at Hotel Arco Iris.
