We spent 6 nights at La Posada, just south of Tamarindo and had a very relaxing time. The room was large with a king bed, sitting area, bathroom with shower, mini fridge, lots of extra towels for the beach. Las Posada consists of many two bedroom units spread out on the hotel grounds. There is a swimming pool with pool service from the nearby restaurant. The booking includes a buffet breakfast which consists of fresh fruit, yougurt, pastries, rice, beans, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice, coffee. There is a breakfast menu that you can also order from for an additional cost. The restuarant is open all day and serves lunch and dinner. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is quite good, although we did not eat here everyday.
There are 3 beaches within a short drive or shuttle ride that you can access as resident of La Possada. All three are lovely - as are all the beaches we visited in Costa Rica, each of the three have different features depending on what you would like. The pool/beach at the Marriot have all the amenities of a large hotel chain, beach chairs with umbrellas, etc and several restaurants. Drinks serviced pool side or beachside. The same is true of the Beach Club. There are also boogie and surf board rentals at both locations. At Langosta beach it is a bit more rugged, with palm leaf umbrella's for shade and a small assortment of lounge chairs. There is no pool at this beach, which was fine with us, and no bar, but there was a young man selling cold drinks and a few snacks from a cooler. There is also a bathroom and shower to rinse off, but no other amentities. This was our favourite beach, with miles of clean beach to walk on and great waves to bounce around in.
The only drawback for us was that the beach was not within walking distance. We had a car so we could travel to a different beach everyday and to the other smaller beaches nearby. We also played a round of golf and we pleased with the friendly service. The chef even brought me my sandwich out to the 10th hole, which was totally unexpected.
