“STAY AWAY!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

A friend and I booked a 2 night stay at this hotel last week and since we were already in Tamarindo we actually went to the hotel and made a reservation with their receptionist right there and then. When we showed up the next day to check in, they told us that we don't have a room. We were in shock, of course, as we had been there a day before and made a reservation in person. Their excuse was that our credit card was not accepted which was a bs since we used that same credit card to pay for other things in Tamarindo during our stay. When we told them that argument doesn't stand and asked why didn;t they call us if there was issue with the card and they said bc. our phone on record was international phone #?!?! Now, i don't know about the rest of you but if I go on vacation i don't always , or ever, get a local phone number just so the hotel can call me in case of any issues. If you are running a hotel and have travelers coming from all over the world, shouldn't you be able to make international calls as well???
They didn't have anything to say to us nor did they want to speak with us. The receptionist that was working that day could barely speak any English so we were forced to use Google translate to even try to communicate with her and the other person sitting in the back room who spoke English , locked herself in and wouldn't even come to talk to us. we asked to call a manager, they refused. we asked to call a receptionist who made a booking and they refused. They just don't care. They left us on the street in the peak season where no other rooms were available for the night and we had to sleep in our car and they did not even care to try and help us out find something else. They just kept saying no room, no room, go.. leave..
Absolutely horrendous customer service and an establishment that should be avoided by all means.

We booked a 5 night stay in Pueblo Dorado. The first night we were attacked by fire ants coming from the closet. We moved the bed away from the wall, and made it through the night with only one bite. In the morning, we told the concierge (no one was around during the night) that we wanted a new room, although the neon sign outside said 'vacancy' she told us there were no rooms available. So she sent the maintenance to help. Our luggage was near the closet and he comes in and sprays insecticide in our room, with us in the room, no ventilation, next to our luggage!!! Completely not ok. We complain, we decide to leave, and they won't refund our money. An hour of fighting got us 40% refund. One terrible night out of 5 stayed there, and we got 40% back. A complete fraud!

Stay across the street at La Laguna del Cocodrilo. Clean, friendly, amazing view, 1/2 the price and owned by a super nice couple! Seriously, I stayed at both, remove the fire ants from the equation and La Laguna del Cocodrilo is nicer, has an amazing restaurant, and a better view for 1/2 the price.

Happy travels!

My husband and I spent a week in this hotel and found it to be comfortable, clean and welcoming. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The pool is good for cooling off but not for swimming as it is not very deep. Breakfast is a bonus as were the howling monkeys that seranaded us each afternoon around four o'clock. The hotel is located within walking distance to the shops and restaurants and taxis are plentiful for longer distances. The air conditioning worked well and the rooms and poolside and common areas were immaculate.

Room Tip: Ask for the second level away from the laundry room and if you can get a corner room they are more s...

This hotel is not for those seeking a North American experience. The rooms are adequately furnished with maid service daily. The airconditioning is individual to the room, the in room shower is large and tiled. There is a basic fare daily breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, juice, cereal, toast, jam, scrambled eggs and fantastic coffee. The pool is maintained daily and has tables chairs and loungers. The front desk staff are great. If there are issues the staff work to resolve them quickly. Most staff are Spanish speaking and very friendly. The hotel is situated on the fringe of the town within a short walk of restauraunts and shops. The beach is across the street and is just wonderful. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.

Pros:
- Great staff! Welcoming and showed genuine concern
- Hot water (weird that it feels like a luxury after coming from Monteverde and Poas)
- Very good value for money

Cons:
- Rickety beds
- Ants in the room (the staff changed the room immediately)
- Small breakfast. We ended up going to the excellent Parisian bakery opposite the hotel anyway.

We stayed for four nights of what was to be an eight night stay. First the good - the staff were very nice, it was clean and located out of the busy part of town with a short walk to the beach, and the pool area was nice. Now the bad - the room was very small, the bed was so noisy that you couldn't move without making lots of noise, the bathroom door was see through and our room was above the breakfast area and guests who were using it at 5:30 am were a bit loud (didn't really matter since we were't doing too much sleeping anyway). We were able to find another place to stay so left early. The prices were high for what you got compared to other places we stayed. I can't recommend this hotel.

this hotel is totally average -- if you are looking for luxury this is not your place. It is clean enough -- small room with just the basic neccessties. Probably great for backpackers, etc. Short walk to beach, shops. Would stay somewhere nicer next time.
