I was very disappointed with this resort for the price we paid for it. I think some people book this resort through package deals and the value for money may be better, but I would certainly not reccommend paying the 'going rate' for this hotel. From looking at the website the pictures would have you believe this was a modern, high quality resort located on the beach, but actually it is a resort which is cut off with a very busy road of which only a small, and very dated part of the hotel was on the beach side. We stayed in 2 different rooms (owing to their being an animal of some sort in the roof of the first one - for this I don't blame the hotel at all - that was just unfortunate and to be fair the staff did their best to remove the animal even though it was the middle of the night). The first room was on the left hand side as you face the beach - this rooms was poorly decorated with small stains and water patches throughout. The bathrooms were dark and dingy, and the shower was very basic. We then moved to the block on the right hand side as you face the beach and this was more modern and the rooms in much better state. I still would not say they were luxurious but they were better.

The main pool area close to the beach was nice, but the other pools in the resort were again dated, with stains on the floor and shipped paint work etc. The rooms were also quite noisy - you could hear the road and the sounds from the other units.

The hotel very much gave me the feel that it had been expanded so many times that it had got too much to handle and that they were not able to maintain the basic up-keep required.

We also ate the breakfast (which I would say was average) and at the hotel restaurant for dinner which was really bland food. I would definitely reccommend eating at some of the other restaurants near by - there are many cheaper, more atmospheric and higher quality food places near by.

On the plus side the beach was gorgeous with great sunsets and the location of the hotel (excluding the road running through it) was really nice. Also the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you pick a beach front room try and get in the building on the right hand side as you face the be...

If you are looking for a great location to beach and restaurants, this is the place to stay. We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed all of them. The food options are great and they offer a nice Breakfast Buffet (the coffee is incredible). The rooms are fairly small and simple but who wants to be in the room anyway when you have access to great pools and a wonderful beach with bars and restaurants right on the sand. We basically only slept and showered in the rooms. There is so much to do right on the beach..walk, run, surf, get a massage, fish, go for a boat ride, watch the sunset, drink, etc. There is also a small casino with a couple of card tables and slot machines just a 3 minute walk away near shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend this location as the employees are friendly and helpful. Please remember to tip them well, they deserve it! Also, just in case you are wondering, the area is very safe and we never felt any type of danger whatsoever, even at night with my wife and daughters.

Room Tip: There are two options. Beach side of steet which is great for sunset views and beach access but more...

My husband and I booked a last minute trip to Costa Rica and our friends referred us to this hotel. We booked transportation through the hotel which was overpriced but we were picked up on time and the driver was very courteous. We upgraded to the ocean view room which was worth every penny. The sunsets in Costa Rica are the best I’ve ever seen so we could sit on our balcony watching the sunset every evening before heading out to dinner. The breakfast was great and included in the price of the hotel. The location of this hotel could not be better. We ate at a different restaurant each of the seven nights we were there and could walk to each of them.

The negatives were that we didn’t get hot water a couple of the nights we were there but when we told the front desk a couple times, the water magically started working…then stopped again. The service at the bar was pretty slow and the beds were hard.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are worth every penny.

Was here for 2 nights in the 1st week of Sept after a few nights in Arenal. The hotel itself is average/good.

Checkin: During the check-in process there was a mix-up. The front desk lady was able to fix it fairly quickly. Our room was across the street.

Room: The room itself was nice, nothing too wow. It was clean and the showers had good pressure. Our room faced the big pool which was nice and it had a balcony.

The breakfast buffet had a decent selection of items. However, some of the waitstaff was kind of rude. On our last day there we went to get breakfast and the hostess said there was no seats for 7. (keep in mind this was our 3rd day eating there... we had the same big table each time). She said she could only seat us as 4 and 3. What the? our "usual" time was clearly free but it was not set. So after a few minutes the manager came by and they set the table for us.

The pools: There are 2 pools by the front by the beach. 1 is more of a kiddie pool and the other is bigger. Theres also the big pool across the street. Now, that pool is nice ! There's a swim up bar (that wasn't open... I guess b/c of slow season?)

Bar service: When we were are the big pool a waiter came by to take our drinks orders. He had to go across the street and come by with our drinks. He was nice and fairly quick with that. The 2nd day we were at the pool by the bar and the service was soooo slow. I felt like I was melting away as I was waiting for our bottle of water.

Spa: We got a massage in the garden for $40. It was an experience to remember. Hearing the waves and relaxing. Use bug spray though!

Location: great! which is the main reason I'm giving it an extra star. It's located near a bunch of restaurants, bars and disco/club. We were able to walk around to shop, eat and drink. When we wanted to go to a fancier hotel a few minutes away the cab ride was quick.

Last month my friend and I stayed in room 223 on the second floor. There was a view of the lawn below, the beach and ocean. We were able to sit on the small balcony which was pleasant. But the "sewer smell" from the bathroom was terrible and was always lingering in the room. I told the front desk with no response. There were also gray, moldy spots on the ceiling above the shower. It was clear the floor needing a good cleaning. While my friend got our car I told the young woman behind the desk about the smell who made it clear she was uninterested.

My wife and I are a 30 something couple who like to travel comfortably, meaning not over the top Ritz-style but as close to it as possible. We found this hotel to be perfect for our needs. It is right in the center of town and close to everything. We did not upgrade to an ocean view, so enjoyed views of the gardens and pools.

The hotel is a little dated, but I have found that to be the case in most Latin American hotels. However, the grounds, rooms, and restaurants were very clean. A breakfast buffet was included in our rate, and it also was very good. We would eat a big meal in the morning and not have to eat again till the evening.

The staff is excellent. The concierge is a reliable source for restaurant suggestions and activities in the area. The front desk staff was also very helpful and courteous. The hotel (concierge) also took note that we were celebrating my wife's birthday and delivered chocolate covered strawberries and a cake and candle.

Our only complaint is that we did not have hot water 2 of the 4 nights we stayed. I know this sounds basic, but after hot, muggy days, it wasn't so bad. We immediately notified the front desk. They informed it was due to the electrical storms and credited us $18 per night. Their immediate response improved the situation immensely.

I would recommend this hotel if you like to be in town, don't want to pay the JW's prices, and want some extra comforts in your vacation.

We were there over New Years and the Resort had a fantastic party to ring in the new year! Nice to be able to walk out of your room and the beach is right there.....Easy to walk to shopping and restaurants. They also have a travel desk that makes it easy to plan daytime activities. Front desk staff is excellent. The new addition is across the street, but their pool is worth going to!

Room Tip: stay in one of the beachfront rooms-nice to hear the ocean waves. The old section can be noisy as it...
