“nice hotel and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We spent 5 nights at Pasatiempo and really enjoyed it. Only 2 min walk to the town and beach, and away from the noise except for the Leatherback band who play once a week in the rancho until 1am...I love music but it was more of a cat's concert.
The room was very nice, spotless and had a very good AC which is really needed there. The staff was very nice and helpful. A very good place to stay in Tamarindo.

Room Tip: away from the pool and restaurant

Myself and two friends stayed at Hotel Pasatiempo for six nights and we really enjoyed our stay. It's about a 5 minute walk from the main road and beach which we knew ahead of time and did not bother us. The pool and garden areas are beautiful and very well-maintained. The breakfast every morning was simple but very good consisting of fruit, toast and usually eggs. I've read some reviews that complained about the beds being too hard. I personally loved the bed. It was firm but I found it was exactly what I need after a day of driving on the bumpy Costa Rican roads. My only complaint is that I wish there had been a mini-fridge in our room. It would have been nice to have some place to keep water and other beverages cold as there was no bar or restaurant service on site during the day. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Pasatiempo.

Just a short walk to the beach, steps to the supermarket and convenient to plenty of restaurants. Peaceful setting with beautifully landscaped grounds. Service was great, rooms were clean, bed was comfortable and breakfast was plentiful. Randy the manager was always quick to respond to any of our requests. We stayed for four nights in January as we explored Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We had dinner at the Ttiki restaurant ( run by someone else) which is onsite and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. One of the best ones of our trip.

Our stay at the Pasatiempo was less than perfect; the hotel needs some upgrading. The maids, however, did everything to make our stay comfortable. If you are looking for a tropical experience, then the hotel meets your criteria. If you are looking for comfort, then you might want to look elsewhere.

Our time here was wonderful. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Mary and Enriquette took great care in cleaning our room and always had a smile and a kind word. Thanks to Randy and Helene for connecting us to some great tours.
The breakfast was great and just what we needed before our daily beach walks. The hotel is in walking distance to everything.
Would like to see another side table in the room to put things and complimentary ice would of been nice.
Thanks for making our stay in Tamarindo so pleasant.

we just returned from a two week stay at this hidden gem. From check in with Randy at the front desk we were treated with a warm welcome. they go out of their way to Make things as comfortable as possible.T he maids we had were excellent ...Mary and Enriquetta were outstanding and work very hard....thank you ladies....The breakfast in the morning always included fresh hot coffee, juice and eggs or cereal and toast with jam.I do feel that the hotel should provide complimentary ice to their guests and perhaps face clothes in the rooms. Helene, keep up the great job as you have some great staff... Judy and Larry Mason...We will return if back in Tamarindo.

We liked this place. Our room was very close to the restaurant/bar, which sometimes was a bit loud, but we liked that. It was fun. We were in No. 10, I think. The air conditioner worked well and was very quiet and with a remote. there was not much of a view from the room, but a little private covered patio with chairs and a small table, (I think.) You have a lovely view of the pool area, sparkling, and palm fronds or banana leaves. Our room was very clean. The towels were new and bright and thick. Shower water was hot except for one day when there was a power outage all over the whole town. It wasn't their fault. The floors were nice, new tile. A good closet with safe where you set your own code. The bathroom looked really new...counter top, sink, and toilet. The breakfast was fine. Coffee good. Service, good. Randy helped us out several times, did everything to make our stay pleasant. The restaurant for dinner was quite good, but on the pricey side. It was in a big open conical shaped palm frond structure. The pool is very nice.
