“Beautiful Hostel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

We booked a private room at this hostel and our experience was wonderful! The host, Marianna, is a wonderful woman full of character and information. Her son Francisco is also a wonderful guy who teaches surf lessons for a great price and is extremely friendly and hospitable. During our stay we met numerous people from all over the world and made quick friends. The layout of the hostel was great... Dorms on the left, private rooms on the right, a beautiful pool in the middle and the kitchen and hang out areas in the back. Everything was open air and we even got to see some awesome wildlife just sitting on the couches. One morning an iguana jumped from the roof into the pool to cool off and he hung around for a while until we were able to snap photos. We also saw giant grasshoppers, lizards and a big toad. Our rooms were freshened up each day, the kitchen was cleaned every morning and the place was kept nice and tidy throughout the day. Free coffee each morning and about a 10 minute walk from the beach. We loved it! Kinda far from the hustle and bustle of the center of the town but worth the walks.
A few things that people might not like:
1.There is a cat that sits on the counter and meows while everyone is cooking, begging for food. Marianna shoos it away but it always comes back.
2. There are multiple dogs owned by the host. They are not bothersome but sometimes they bark and fight.
3. There is smoking allowed in the general hangout area.
4. You only get one towel for your entire stay and the rooms are very basic (but with air conditioning!)

I really enjoyed my stay here at the botella de leche. Close to pretty much everything and the family was more than happy to let you eat with them and help you in any way possible. It is a family owned est. So there are lil kids around which was fine with me but not the ultimate party spot if that is what ur looking for. Very relaxing and comfortable environment.

After a long day of travel from Nicaragua into Costa Rica, my brother and I ended up in Tamarindo at around 9pm. We had no place to stay so we just walked down the street and checked the rates and vacancies a few of the hostels. Eventually we found "The Milk Bottle".

For $32. a night (total) the two of us had a comfortable room with one big bed and a set of bunk beds; a private bathroom; Air Conditioning; a ceiling fan; and a mini-fridge. Right out side our door we had a small patio with two chairs, a table, abd a hammock. From the patio we walked down two steps and were in the middle of the open-air hostel. There was a swimming pool; a kitchen, a TV with couches, a couple of old computers; and Free Wi-Fi.

The place is owned by a nice Argentine lady and her daughter-in-law (from San Francisco). The owner's son runs a surf shop and offers surfing lessons at the end of which he brings you to his Mexican restaurant - which is included in the cost of the surfing lesson.

When we were ready to move on to our next destination the staff made a reservation for us on one of the daily shuttle bus services which pick you up and drop you off at your hotels. When we originally tried to make a reservation the buses were already filled up so we had to wait another day, and then the shuttle bus forgot to pick us up. But they finally got us the next day.

The place is managed very well and is definately a friendly environment. It's about a 200 meter walk to the town centre. Without packs on it shouldn't take you longer than a few minutes to arrive at the beach.

If I find myself back in Tamarindo: I'll be sure to stay here again.

It's a really nice Hostel with such a great staff. They are really friendly and helpfull, try to help you with your questions. Its clean (for Costa Rica) and the rooms are good. It's safe, they have their own security.
For people who travel alone its a good place tho meet new people, because there is always someone hanging around. And you should relly take surflessons. We had (the son of the owner is a surfinteacher). So much fun!
Everthing looks like made with love, there are so many small, lovely details. You feel like being at home.
When you are looking for a hostel in Tamarindo, you definitly shoud go to la Botella de Leche!

I stayed in "La Botella de Leche" for 2 weeks. The open kitchen and living room gives you a comfortable environment while you are in contact with the nature. The swimming pool is a great place for chill out in the afternoon (and is the only hostel in the area that has a swimming pool) The staff is very friendly, they are always ready to help you. The rooms are clean and have air conditioner. This hostel is a great option for those that are looking for an accessible, clean, secure and with a nice environment place to stay. This hostel is my first and last option in Tamarindo.

the owner Mariana Nogaro is dynamic, kind, helpful and just sooo nice! Hostel is warm, charming and fun. Great value in Tamarindo Beach where everything is overpriced. Rooms are adequate, pool is cleaned everyday, kitchen alright although new cookware and dishes may help improve ease of cooking. Coffee free any time of the day and it is good! Casual, upbeat atmosphere, feels like home to me and we look forward to coming back at the end of each day! We have our dog with us and she just blended in with the 3 dogs and cats on the property. Will come back and stay any time. Don't even think about any other hostel in the area. But keep in mind THIS IS A YOUTH HOSTEL.
