“Great spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

Just spent the week staying at FTs. The location is prime, great place to stay, amazing food and amazing people! The owners dog "Dolce" is the greatest!

I stayed at FTs for an extended period of time when I was in between homes here in Tamarindo. The staff is super nice and accommodating (providing coffee before restaurant opening hours, and cleaning your room when you choose). The place is located right on the main road, directly across the beach, and in the center of town. The rooms are standard, but very clean, and extremely safe. The food in the restaurant is fabulous and inexpensive, and they have a selection for all tastes. There are always people dinning or just having a few beers after a surf session, so if you want to meet other travelers this is a friendly place to do so.

Apparently the staff will host random parties when they choose. I'm writing this review because it is 10 min to midnight, on a Sunday of all nights, and the base of the stereo is still pumping - even after registering a complaint to the staff. Absolutely no sense of customer service. And having spent 3 years coming and going to Tamarindo, this will be my last stay at, and recommendation to stay, at FT's.

You guys just lost a bunch of customers...

Now go party some more... clearly that is more important than running a business.

Room Tip: Bring your own sheets if you do decide to stay.

Just spent some time in Tamarindo and FT's is a great spot. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Burrito's are very good (had a few of these) and the menu has alot of options. All-in-all a great spot and it's open pretty late for the area (11pm).

This place has the perfect blend between Costa Rica and the USA. The rooms are spacious and offer everything needed for a trip to the beach! Also its a short walking distance from the beach, the nightlife (bars, clubs, etc) and many restaurants in the area. As for the food, it was AMAZING. Their menu offers typical costa rican food (made by locals) and tons of kid friendly food (burgers, chicken and nachos). The burritos are my favorite. The staff is friendly and always helpful! If you're looking for a place with a good location and a fantastic value, FT's is definitely for you!

The hostel is ideally located right in the middle of Tamarindo and directly across the street from the beach. The burritos are huge and their beer is some of the cheapest in town. I give the spot high marks for location and dining, however as a place to stay it was a bit interesting.

Our room was behind the kitchen in the back and the entire facility was locked up at closing time. Although this was a bit strange looking because you walk through a vacant restaurant, it is common for hostels. The room had ac that worked well and even though it went unused there was also a tv in our room.

The room itself had many creatures that visited us nightly...our two most frequent were the winged cockroach and the white gecko. One night we did hear someone trying to get into our room, so after that we didn't sleep very well between all 3 unwelcomed guests. We stayed for about a week and they didn't bring us TP or new sheets/towels. We are generally pretty green minded, but after all the bugs in the bathroom all would have been welcomed.

All in all, it was one of the less expensive options and if all you want is a spot close to the beach at a cheap rate...then this is the spot.

The location was great. It's right across the street from the beach. Couldn't be better unless it was on the beach. The staff was always nice. The room was nothing great. The AC was cold and the room also had a fan. They don't clean the rooms regularly during your stay. In fact, the don't clean them at all nor do they check on supplies like clean towels or toilet paper, etc. Seeing a huge cockroach chilling in the shower before you're about to jump in isn't very cool. We also had a gecko join us in the bathroom a few nights. He'd make noises that would wake us frequently. Didn't sleep very well unless we were out drinking heavily. The door lock needed to be repaired as well. A child could have easily kicked the door in. It would be great if they would fix the locks and putty up the holes that the bugs crawl in from - and check up on supplies once in a while. The restaurant had great food. We loved the $6 burritos that were big enough to feed two. The restaurant was very reasonable compared to the others in the area.
