“4 days at Marriott Guanacaste”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Just came back from a two-week trip in Costa Rica; we toured the country and ended with a four night stay at JW Marriott Guanacaste.
Nice hotel, friendly staff, beach a little small and rocky, but the 82-85 degree water helps forget it.
Beautiful pool and surroundings.
Only downside was our rooms facing the service entry (rooms 508 & 509). Several times a day delivery trucks come in and out, and a coach bus picks up and drops off hotels staff (engine idling forever). Make sure you ask for a room on the other side of the property.
Would definitely go back though.

Dear Baudouin123,

The temperatures of the water at the ocean are soo nice right? I am glad you have enjoy it that.

The different hallways that our guest use to go to their room are not consider views since are only transit areas. Each room of our resort have different views from their balconies. We have garden view, pool view, ocean view and ocean front rooms.

I am glad to know that you thinking in coming back and if feel more comfortable at the other side of the resort just let us know before your next visit.

Sincerely,

We stayed 1 night on our way to Nosara and wished we had booked longer. Incredible views and extremely nice employees. The beach was very nice at low tide to walk along and search in the tide pools. The swimming pool is the largest in Costa Rica. When we arrived a summer storm was just starting. That was the loudest thunder and lightening I have ever seen! It sounded like cannons coming off the ocean. We will definitely come back.

Stayed two nights on Caravan trip. Lovely, HUGE pool, nice rooms, really nice buffet, but dining room supervisor pretty snooty and condescending. He should find another job.
The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms the fanciest I have ever seen. Two of the three elevators did not work, but we were on third floor so not so bad.
Nice business center, helpful staff who greets guests with a smile (except for the dining room guy) every time you pass. Huge TV in room, bathroom has huge tub and a shower large enough to wash my Honda. Immaculately clean.
We were after a leisurely and relaxing time and found it here.
The beach is beautiful, but not really a swimming beach due to rocky shore. Fun to hear howler monkeys a couple of times, but never saw them. Beautiful grounds.
It is not close to anything, but does not need to be--good food and scenery and pool and spacious and large room--what else do you need?

WOW Thank you for this great review Dear JoeSchalambe!

I am pleased to know that you have enjoyed your stay at our resort. I regret you were not able to see the monkeys since is very common to see them sometimes very early in the morning or late afternoon.

It is gratifying to hear that you have encountered everything you need to have a great vacation.

We will be waiting for your next stay.

This trip has been amazing....However, if you are ok with sitting by a secluded pool and very rocky beach with nothing else to do....this hotel is for you. It takes over 20 minutes just to get off the property. Think there are ALOT better accommodations for the price of the Marriott. We loved the town of Tamarindo, the beaches, numerous restaurants, shops, and life it had to offer. Would definitely stay there on my next visit.

Dear Nathalie S,

I am pleased to know that you have enjoyed your trip in Costa Rica, however I regret that our resort did not meet your expectations.

We are 20 minutes away from Tamarindo and we have a shuttle service at different ours to go to town for shopping, to visit different restaurants or the beautiful beach.

We also offer tour and activities to do during your stay, the pool is open 24 hours, the Pool Bar is open until 5 but the Nau Bar is open from 4pm until 12.

Thank you for taking your time and write a valuable review.
Sincerely,

Jesus Gonzalez

We stayed here 2 nights as part of our Caravan Tour. Wow - spectacular. This property was beautiful. The location is great. The pool was so nice and peaceful. Right next to the ocean. 2 out of 6 rooms in our family did not have hot water - but that is the only negative thing about the hotel. We could overlook that. The rooms were great, beds were super comfortable. It was Low Season so not many people at the hotel and it was almost like we had the place to ourselves. This is one place I would come back and visit.

Don't let the remote location of this hotel scare you. It is quite a distance from anything. This really isn't a big deal because it basically has everything you need. Yes, the prices are high for food and drinks, but that could be expected because of the captive audience. The rooms are huge and have decks with awesome views and ceiling fans to help cool down. The bathrooms are huge and have tubs and showers. Our room was spotless. We were on a Caravan tour and all of our meals were buffet style. I can honestly say, outside of Las Vegas, I have never seen buffets like this. The food choices were endless and the service was excellent. The pool area is HUGE and winds around out to an infinity pool that has incredible sunset views. The beach area is beautiful, but small. It is very rocky and not a great place to swim. One thing to be aware of when you use the pool is that fiddler crabs are ever present. These little guys wander into the pool and don't make their way out alive(chlorine). The staff tries hard to get them out, but it is an endless battle. This is a wonderful resort to just relax and enjoy all that it has to offer....just don't get lost because it is huge!

Thank you Tknopf for your Great Review!

I hope that you and the rest of your group have enjoyed the stay at our resort.

It is very difficult to prevent the crabs fall into the pool. We clean the pool every night but at this time we have a lot of them.

I hope you did not have lost during your stay. We have signs at the halls on the different floors to help our guest to find their room.

We will be waiting for your next visit.

We were originally a little nervous about traveling to Costa Rica in August since it's the month before the real rainy season begins but it worked out beautifully. We were able to use some Marriott points. Additionally, our group (2 families) was upgraded to great ocean view rooms because they were not at full occupancy, being a less busy tourism month there. The pools were awesome and the kids enjoyed body boarding in the surf. We ate at all the restaurants on property and it was delicious. The buffet breakfast was pricey at $30 so we did not do that but instead ordered off the menu and it was very reasonable. The employees were helpful, kind and spoke pretty good English. It's about a 30 minute drive into Tamarindo Beach which is well worth a day trip for surfing lessons, dining out or just poking around the shops. The hotel gladly arranged our transportation, dinner reservations and excursions for us. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at this Marriott property.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are a little further off the pool and beach but in the shoulder or lower season, i...
