“Rustic paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Beautiful location, friendly staff, nice little pol, very rustic place. You will hear every step in that apartment. No baby cots available but a sofa bed possible to use. Fully equipped kitchen is a plus. Different breakfast every day - variation of pancakes, eggs and french toasts + fruit during our stay. Our apartment no. 5 was full of red ants, upon our request the place was sprayed but that did not intimidate them. Our repelent did not seem to work on them either. If you do not expect luxury and do not suffer insect phobia, this is a great place to be.

The treehouse inn is a great B&B with friendly staff and great breakfast. I stayed in a treehouse and was very happy with everything. The structures themselves are really cool teak structures with a living room with 2 couches, one can become a futon and semi-separate bedroom. Also a kitchen, fridge, and bathroom. Semi-seperate because while there is a wall with a door the wall does not go all the way to the top. They also have charcoal grills and outdoor sinks so making meals is a blast.

Every treehouse has 2 hammocks and 2 beach chairs as well as a table an grill underneath the actual structure. This place is set up for lounging out. The location is prime. Beach front, mostly unobstructed ocean views, and in the heart of Samara. There are some amazing restaurants and Soda's (tipical Costa Rican food) all around and a super market right across the street. It's really a great little hotel, but the price is pretty much the most they can charge without crossing in to a new price point and a new level of expectations.

Other posters have it right though when it comes the need for TLC. There needs to be some screens put in to the windows and doors. Our mosquito net had a small hole in it although I will say that we had absolutely no problems with bugs in our room save for the occasional ant which is basically part of the deal in Costa Rica. The bathrooms are a little tired, some of the kitchen appliances needed to be repaired or replaced. None of these problems really upset me though. The one thing that needs to happen is air conditioning in the tree houses.

Bottom line here is this is a great place for couples or families with 2 kids who want to cook a few meals themselves and have amazing beach access in a great town.

We loved our tree house a lot. We stayed there for 3 nights and would have loved to stay longer. It’s in the middle of Samara right at the beach with various surf board rentals next to it. We had our window front always open and it was great waking up at night listening to the sound of the sea or the birds in the morning.
The tree houses are very cute and you have everything you wish including a kitchen, where you could cook your own meals. However, since the restaurants in Samara are so good, we never used that option.
Breakfast is served in the morning in the area underneath the tree house and it was sometimes very good, sometimes just okay.
Samara is a very relaxed place, where you can easily learn to surf. It has some great restaurants and has all in all a very laid-back ambiance.

We would definitely choose the Tree House again should we return to Costa Rica and Samara, as it was just amazing.

Ok maybe be bit over the top here but for the price I expected so much more than the location (which is second to none) My Girlfriend and I stayed is some real holes during or stay in CR to afford a tree house for two nights and deserved more!
Started with confusion over our booking, I had been reluctant to send my Credit Card details online as they requested which meant a double booking. As it turned out all these bookings are taken over an unsecured WIFI (maybe did not need to worry as WIFI was down all the time)
Our welcome consisted of handover off keys and then pointed to tree house. Again maybe over the top here but if this is read by management some constructive points that would help justify the prices you are charging
• Polite welcome and guided tour of facility with explanation of what chairs can/cannot be used etc. (had to figure this out and they point out to other confused guests )
• Staff uniforms, Smiles also cost nothing!
• Do not place information in rooms if you can’t follow through on- asked for cocktail and were missing ingredients, asked about tour a price advertised to be told price had gone up!
• At the price include a few little extras such as shampoos
Back to the positives the location, the view, the pool, the stars and the tree houses.

Room Tip: Tree house 3 for the best view

Dear Liam,
Thank you so much for your review, and we are very sorry to hear that your visit was less than perfect. We have spoken with the on-site manager about the issues you raised, including a better welcome and tour, the booking process and accurate brochures in the rooms. We want to assure you and other guests that we are addressing these concerns and hope that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you again to the treehouse and make your next visit a perfect one!
Warm regards,
Heidi

Great location, great staff. Breakfast could be better (offer something more than one item like greasy pancakes. By default, provide toast butter and cereal) but otherwise we enjoyed our stay. Loved the decor, kitchen, bedroom and beach view. The pool was quite cold.

Overall - perfect location, rooms are clean and unique, I will be back !

You absolutely cannot beat the location if you are staying at Playa Sámara ... it is beachfront and right near the center of town where you can find lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of November and we really wished we had more time here to explore the area and mostly just relax. This is perfect for relaxation. Inside, you can sit on the couches near the open window watching and listening to the waves that are so near .... it is like a dream to wake up from a nap to the sound of the waves. We could walk up and down the beach and there were little bars and restaurants tucked in the trees. It was so beautiful to see trees and discreet little hotels and restaurants as opposed to a skyline of concrete and high-rises.

The hotel was so cute and we loved the idea of it being up on stilts, with a private eating area and hammocks hanging below. We could barbecue on the grill, play games on the table, or simply lay in the hammock in the shade, or on our private lounge chairs in the sun in front of our room. The pool was fun to swim in after the sun went down, and it has a friendly personal feel since there are only a handful of rooms. The staff was very friendly and having breakfast included was an absolutely perfect start of the day. This also was very relaxing, to simply wake up and walk down to the table instead of having to think about where to go for breakfast.

There is also a little grocery store right across the street so you could plan to stay for a while and save money on food this way, since the rooms are equipped with a kitchen and bbq downstairs.

Again I have to mention how helpful the staff was. They waited up for us until the tiny hours of the morning on the night we arrived, and they also helped us arrange transportation to our next destination that there was no way we would have gotten arranged in time without them.

Thank you so much for everything, and we hope to visit again soon!!!

I struggled with how to rate Samara Tree House Inn as my few complaints were really minute. Overall we really liked the place, the few complaints I had which I'll detail below were about the TLC needed, advertised wifi and mosquito nets. The rooms were as advertised, neatly decorated and cozy. I wont go into them much because the pictures here and on their website are very accurate although I was surprised at how close together they were. I will say that when you make your reservation you should ask for tree houses 3 or 4 if you can, they have the best views but beach goers can see right in your room so if you want a little privacy with still fantastic views ask for tree houses 2 or 5 (1 and 6 are the poolside units). Over the course of our five nights we stayed in two of the four beach front tree houses, each with their own perks. The breakfast served was quite good, I don't know why other reviewers were saying it was overpriced because ours was included in the nightly rate.
As other reviewers have suggested the units could use a little TLC (e.g. the shower heads in both units we stayed in were attached to a pipe which isn't secured to the wall so in order to adjust the head you also had to hold the pipe, and in some places the seams of the drywall were visible though the paint). This really didn't detract from the place much, but considering you pay a premium to stay in the tree houses the TLC could go a long way to making customers happy paying a little higher rate a night when you can go around the corner for half the price.
My complaint about the wifi is that it was nonexistent. When we checked in they didn't mention that it wasn't working and the next morning when I asked they said it was down but was hopefully being fixed in the morning...that was the same story on day #2 and it wasn't fixed the whole time we were there. It's not that I had intended to use it a lot (it's Costa Rica after all) but I had saved a list of places and activities I wanted to do so not being able to access it was frustrating.
Mosquito nets are necessary. The large windows on the front have no screens and you'll want to have them open to get airflow and keep you cool at night. The mosquito net in the first unit we stay in was fine. In the second unit the net had holes in it...which really defeats the purpose of having it at all. We woke up several times with mosquito buzzing around us.

To be fair we really like this place and will stay here again if we return...I only say IF because there are so many other beaches in Costa Rica we would like to check out. If you're planning a trip to Samara I'd highly recommend the Tree Houses, they are very cool and the location is absolutely ideal. Also, if you're going to Samara make sure you check out SamaraTrails.com ...it was the highlight of our trip!

Room Tip: When you make your reservation you should ask for tree houses 3 or 4 if you can, they have the best...
